I thought I had heard where the SQL 2008 R2 Native client was installed by default with the Windows 2008 R2 operating system.  Did I dream this?  It appears that the ODBC drivers are installed by default but not the native client?

I'm just trying to clear this up and insure that client servers that need this connectivity automatically get this installed (when needed) if it is not already there.

    Thank you!

No ,Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0 is installed when you install SQL Server 2008 R2 or the SQL Server tools.
