I've been looking to get SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition since I discovered that there was going to be one. My question is, where do i get it? I can't find any place that references a place to buy it, or upgrade to it. Any ideas?

This is not true. SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition is not available in any of the EU countries, including UK. As soon as you switch from US to UK in the store, SQL Server is not there at all.Regards

Sunday, August 01, 2010 6:45 PMThe links provided earlier are for the normal 2008 version, not the R2 version. I just checked and Microsoft doesn't sell this product through their online store. I am in the US. Provantage and Buy.com seem to have it though. I just checked NewEgg and they have it now as well. Amazon still doesn't sell it. Maybe Microsoft is waiting for a SP1 release before they distribute it more widely, or perhaps they are trying to clear out the existing stock of non-R2 copies.

usp is correct - R2 developer is NOT available from the microsoft online store. I just spent over an hour trying to find SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition. I challenge anyone to show me where on microsoft.com the R2 developer version appears. All of the links I found on this forum for download is just the Enterprise 180 day trial. Although some places like newegg.com and buy.com say they have it, the accompanying photos don't look like the R2 version - it looks like the original RTM version. I would bet that the package cover will say "SQL Server 2008 R2".
I already own the RTM version. I need the R2 because the RTM version doesn't run on Windows 7. Supposedly you can slipstream SP1 and then install that, but I wasn't successful. The client tools and BOL installed, but the install for all of the engines (sqlserver, ssis, ssas, and ssrs) failed. The slipstreamed version did install on my XP SP 3 desktop.
Before purchasing an R2 developer version from any of the online retailers, make sure you can return it for a full refund if it turns out to be the RTM version. I'm a bit wary at this point that those places actually have R2.

Hi,
I found the SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition in Microsoft Store.
I would like to know if I need to evaluate from where can I download or should I need to use Enterprise Edition only?
Thanks,
Pradeep
