Perhaps you are trying to install SQL Server 2008 SP2 rather than SQL Server 2008 r2 version..Best Regards,Uri Dimant SQL Server MVP,http://sqlblog.com/blogs/uri_dimant/

Did you download the correct SP2 that matches your processor architecture (x86 or x64) ?
Can you go to setup media and run Setup.exe /action=rundiscovery
to see what is exactly installed on the machine ?

Hi adstar,
I think you want to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard. But from the screenshot, you installed SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2. You maybe mix them up.
If you need to install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2, before it make sure you have installed SQL Server 2008 instance.

Hi adstar,
Please open SQL Server Installation Center, click Tools, and select Installed SQL Server features discovery report. The report would show you the features you have installed.
If you have installed some features, you could select features when you install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2.
If you could not see some features in the report, you need to install them firstly.

Thank you all for your suggestions. It end up being the update to sql, not the actual SQL server.
I had to download the correct version.
