Hi dshort3,
The summary log is not enough to identify the root cause. Could you please upload your detail file to some network shared folder like 'Skydriver'?

Peja

That's exactly the package I'm trying to install.
Why would the package ID in the log suddenly change from _cpu64 to _cpu32?
thanks,
Damon

I have run into this problem as well..
Specs;
Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 with Service Pack 1 installed
Processor: Intel Xeon X5670 2.93GHz

Anyone have any ideas?

Thursday, April 12, 2012 3:37 PMAll of I can think of to try on this is to do a cold reboot of the server. However, since this is a production box I haven't had a chance to do this.

is drive g: a local disk or a remote disk (network share) ?
try to execute the executable from a local disk and not from a network share.
did you verify the checksum / correctness of the downloaded file?
In addition some issues with installing SQL 2008R2 service pack had been reported when antivirus software is enabled. You can try to disable antivirus software and install the service pack.

G: is a local disk
The downloaded file was installed successfully on at least 4 other servers.
Antivirus was not enabled.

do the other servers have the same processor ?
I think I've read some threads about problems with SQL Server setup/upgrade with more than 4 cores.

How much disk space is 'enough disk space'? the server in question has over 15 GB of free space, as much or more than several other servers where this has installed successfully.
And since we're discussing installer problems; is there any way to assign the install logs, etc. to something OTHER than the C: drive?? This is the most persistent problem (drive space) of any installation we try.

According to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
15 GB should be fine.
the 15 GB on C drive ?
