General DiscussionFix my reporting services installation and delete uninstalled SQL instances

I have done my best to install a copy of SQL Server 2008, but have discovered my "Reporting Services" installation has failed.

Furthermore, when I attempt to "repair" both the installation (and the "Shared Components" only, per a work-around I found here, will update with link if I find it) I have no had any success, as the SQL Server 2008 SP1 Patch reports that there are issues with my server's previous installation.

When I follow the procedure to complete uninstall SQL Server 2008 for a clean install (following instructions such as removing all components via the control panel "Uninstall") I also recieve errors, and when I attempt to re-run the installer I find that the instance I previously attempted to remove still exists: "MSSQL10" for example (see screen shot), and "RS" is listed as it's components, leading me to believe that the uninstall is failing because of this "RS" issue! I have redownloaded the installer media, and tried to re-running it, and get the same issues when I choose a new name for an instances, and try "adding" features to the one I CANNOT seem uninstall! Any advice would be very helpful, my goal is to uninstall all instances of SQL Server 2008, start fresh, and apply the SP1 patch.

Thanks. I have attached log file, and screen shot. Computer information: Windows 7 Pro.
    HP G60

    Some error messages:

    TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.

     ------------------------------

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created..

I had the "invoke" problem installing the SQL 2008 SP1 management tools on my Windows 7 box.
This is going to sound crazy but here's how I solved it:
    1) Copy all the install files locally to take network hiccups out of the equation.
    2) When you run the installer DO NOT click on anything else. Seriously. Leave the mouse hovering over the install windows and only click on the installer boxes/prompts. It'll work just fine after that.

Close Outlook, browsers, and instant messaging if they're running before launching the installer.

    ...give it a shot.

Ok. Going to give this a shot (I will kill as many processes/services as possible).

Should I do this to the installed instance I was having problems removing ("Add features to this instance") or start fresh and worry about removing those broken ones later?

PS. Media is on a virtual-disk ISO (local, not networked) I also redownloaded this media at least once to confirm it was in good shape.

Ok! I was able to successfully remove one instance of the SQL Server with only the REPORTING SERVICE's remaining by using the "Uninstall" function from the media.

However, I'm finding that I can't get rid of the other one, and as such cannot upgrade.

I went ahead and installed a new instance WITHOUT reporting services.

Since this instance is just for dev. purposes, I'm hoping to upgrade it to SP 1, but don't need reporting services for anything! So I can do without it's features installed (for now I believe) but I would like to remove this failed version!

Here's a screen of the uninstall:

    Another screen shot!

Someone has to have an idea of what to do? I do need this environment and really don't want to completely wack my operating system to get this fixed!
