    I keep getting error:

Windows Installer error message: An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.ATL,version="8.0.50727.6229",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8007054F.

    Googling yield 2 similar results:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2688946

I also get error Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update

    the other http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=2679368&kbln=en-us

are 3 hotfix and I have no idea which one to get

is this issue unique to me?

I'm trying to setup local dev using all express system, started from vs2010, then it's TFs, then the sql.

I already attempted many trials, uninstall the vs2010, run the sql setup from command prompt with elevated privilege, etc.

    anyone got resolution/idea?

    Hi Kelmen,

Have you installed Windows 7 Service Pack 1? If not, please install it first. Additionally, based on the error message, this issue occurred due to “Microsoft.VC80”, and Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update failed to install, I suggest post this Visual C++ update issue to Windows 7 forum. the hotfix has 3 download

    2012_RTM_DACFX_CU1_KB2679368_11_0_2316_x64
    SQLServer2012_RTM_CU1_kb2679368_11_0_2316_x64
    2012_RTM_PPExcel_CU1_KB2679368_11_0_2316_x64

no clear indication which one to install

    and it stated with instruction:

If you are not sure  whether the hotfix is the correct one for your system, do not install it.

I tried the 14431, but got error:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update

    error 1935

    Microsoft.VC80.ATL type=win32 8.0.50727.4053 processorArch=amd64

Hi, based on the current information, I suggest installing the required updates via Windows Updates. If the updates failed to install again, we need to post this update issue on Windows 7 forum to fix the update issue first. After installing the necessary updates, let’s try to install SQL Server again.

after reinstall my os, sql svr can install properly now

very likely my os is corrupted at that time, as windows update also not working properly, even affecting the anti-virus program

looks like Microsoft.VC80.ATL 8.0.50727.6229 is created in the winsxs after the sql installation.

i suspect sql server should be install 1st before vistual-studio 2012 express, that's what i did.
