I had SQL Server 2008 Standard installed and running on my Vista 64bit machine. I upgraded to Windows 7 today. It informed my that SQL Server 2008 had compatibility issues and to uninstall it and reinstall after windows 7 installed. I did that and now I get this error when I try and reinstall SQL Server.

VSShellInstalledRule Checks for previous releases of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Failed A previous release of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 is installed on this computer. Upgrade Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 to the SP1 before installing SQL Server 2008.

I cannot get past this message and I my VS 2008 is

    Microsoft Visual Studio 2008
    Version 9.0.30729.1 SP
    Microsoft .NET Framework
    Version 3.5 SP1

Running Windows update says my machine has no updates to install.
