Thanks in advance:
Could you please look over this file and give advice. This is the summary file and I can also provide the detailed file.
I just installed and uninstalled several times and did some of the routines recommended on these forums for solving the problem of not connecting to a server.
This was after running the repair facility on the disc:

Alberto,
Thanks for your prompt response.
I am getting a 60,000 limit of characters for this reply box. It won't process anything over that.
The detail file have over 2 million characters.
Is there a way where I could send the whole file
Or should I spit it up in many replies of 60,000 or less characters.
I am really stuck with SQL2008 and can't afford to pay for Microsoft Tech help fees.
Would appreciate your assistance with this.

Hello,
Please put it on the public folder of your Skydrive (Hotmail) or share with us only parts of the log when you see error messages.
Thank you in advance.Regards,

Hello,
I have seen the error below on new installations when a previous installation of SQL Server was not uninstalled successfully.
“Microsoft.SqlServer.Setup.Chainer.Workflow.ActionExecutionException: Service 'SQLSERVERAGENT' stop request failed.”
Please perform steps 1-7 and 10 described by Yoyo Yu on the following thread:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sqlexpress/thread/4d6158a1-b601-428c-aad4-a1716e76de1aEnable .NET Framework 3.5 using Control Panel -> Programs and Features. Re-run SQL Server setup again.
You may have to install SP1 for SQL Server 2008 when SQL Server finishes.Hope this helps.

Alberto Morillo

Alberto,
I painstakingly did everything as you suggested including the Yoyo Yu instructions.
I reinstalled but got the same error 26 message again
I then put back in the disc and ran the repair sequence.
That gave new summary and detail files which I put at my skydive account as before.
Would you be willing to look at those:

One additional detail
the Net 3.5, I installed or thought I did. Then when I checked for it at turn windows features on or off, I did not find it.
I then installed it again.
Should I uninstall SQL2008 again and then reinstall it to see if that makes a difference
net 3.5 is listed in the windows features and is turned on now
This is the most difficult time consuming software, I ever installed.

Hello,
The remnants of previous installations originated the installation issues.
Once again perform YoYo Yu steps, and reinstall SQL Server 2008.If it fails again, do not repair the instance, and share with us the Summary.txt log file.
Hope this helps.

I will do it again but I did go through all those steps and delete the remaining files
I will do it over and inform you accordingly
I won't run the repair

Hello,
No errors on installation … Great!
Please enable TCP/IP and Named Pipes protocols.

Enable SQL Server Browser using SQL Server Configuration Manager.
Configure or disable Windows Firewall.

Hello,
Please change the name of the server to your computer name only, (the name is MIBELOVED-PC). Do not use MIBELOVED-PC\SQLEXPRESS. On authentication use Windows Authentication, unless you have created a SQL login before or unless you know the password for the “sa” login. On the “Server type” keep using “Database Engine”.
Hope this helps.

Alberto,
Thanks a million.
I would never have figured that out.
Using just the computer name and using Windows Authentication did it.
Can't thank you enough for this assistance!

Alberto,
Do you know of any workbooks for beginners, complete beginners.
The Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Step by Step book is really not for beginners and many of the exercises just do not work as they should. They are many complains about it on the internet, which I recently found.
Thanks
