    Hello,

I have had to install SQL Server 2005 (x64) on a server running Windows Server 2008 R2. The install succeeds apart from the client tools (BIDS and SSMS). Are the client tools compatible with the operating system?

    Regards,

    Andrew

Yes, it should get installed on Windows 2008R2 server, please verify if you there any other versions of client tools on that server, if not, please check error log details of the failure, log file should have more details around the failure. Hope this helps!

    Hello,

Services Pack 3 (SP3) for SQL Server 2005 is required to make SQL compatible with Windows Server 2008 R2.

Please share with us the summary.txt log file. The following article may help you find this log on the disk drive:

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Alberto,

I've installed the 32-bit version of the software on the server with no issues. The summary file did not have any record of the failure of the client tools, just the succeeded records of the other components.

When you say that SP3 is needed, does this need to be installed immediately after the SQL installation?

    Here's the summary file:-

    Hello,

As long as I remember, client tools are 32-bit only. This means you have it already installed.

    Hope this helps.
