We are in planinig to install SharePoint . as you know on SQL Sever I have some question regarding OS users .

we have SQLCluster 2005 - and house diffrent applications  . we need to install sharepoint database on same  this cluster .

1 - Users for must have DB Creator,Security Admin role for ShaePoint OS users under SQL ?
2-  If multple instance suggestion is good in this case ? should we install 2005 or 2008 is applicable .
3-  Is creating multple instance will affect on performance ...

if there is any good suggestion for alterantice soultion better than menton above this will be good for us .

First of all, i am not aware how Sharepoint handles SQL Server.

1 - Users for must have DB Creator,Security Admin role for ShaePoint OS users under SQL ?
    Not clear

2-  If multple instance suggestion is good in this case ? should we install 2005 or 2008 is applicable .

You can consider SQL Server 2008 as first choice since it the product to stay longer in the mkt. Even 2005 is good enough. I am not sure whether u need multiple instance or not for sharepoint

3-  Is creating multple instance will affect on performance ...
It will have impact since there will be multiple binary running. If you can goahead with single instance it would be better. That said if the requirement is of multi instance, then 2008 (enterprise edition) have many new features to manage resource which is useful in multiinstance env.

    Hi

     Thanks for your response .

we use Database SQl as Back-End for SharePoint .

DB Creator,Security Admin is role in SQL Server . is is nececcesay for SharePoint users .?

as you know we choose multible instance  beacouse above role has authority to manage all database in same instance . this is not acceptable . for this reason we need to create another intsance.

I am aware that SQL is the backend for Sharepoint. But i can not comment on what level of security you need for sharepoint users. Ideally, general users should not be requiring these super use previllage.  SHarepoint forum will be the better place for this question.

here is the forum for sharepoint admin related questions.

you go for multiple instances in SQL Server (irrespective of Sharepoint)  when
    (a) Security reason because you can not share sysadmin privillage
    (b) resouce contention : eg. you  have one highly critical app and another  not so critical. You need to allocate more memory to the critical app then you create seperate instance and allocate memmory.

If you can not share SA privillage, then you have to go for multiple instance. But the question is , does Sharepoint administrator requires SA privillage that ask in sharepoint forum

    Hi, Michael my Name.

do know anybody, how many sql cluster instances support the combination with sharepoint?
i hear, that microsoft support only two instances per cluster node.
but when i install sql single server, there are supporting up to (i think) 64 instances.
    thanks for help
