Error Number: 18456

Question

SQL Server 2008 enterprise edition was installed on a windows server 2003.

The SQL Server Management Studio allows me to login to Analysis Services, Integration Services, Reporting Services, BUT NOT the Database Engine!

I have found that only windows authentication enabled so i have enabled it using single user mode and i have added the admin group under security logins. 

when i switched back to multi user mode i could not login in both the modes.

Please provide me a solution.

Hi,

By default, the local Windows Group BUILTIN\Administrator is no longer included in the SQL Server sysadmin fixed server role on new SQL Server 2008 installations.

Stop all SQL-Services,from a command prompt, enter the following command: sqlservr.exe -f  (make sure that the sql-agent ist stopped!)

a) grant access to the BUILTIN\Administrators group in SQL Server (not recommended)
b) or explicitly add your domain group (DBA's only?) to SQL Server and grant sysadmin rights to that group

i have tried it but it didn't help.

The issue is fixed after SP1 upgrade.
