Does BIDS - Report Model Project support SAS datasource?

1. Can we use SAS dataset as a data source (or dataset) while building ‘Report Model Project’ in SQL server 2005 - Business Intelligence Development Studio?

2. If so, do we require any additional connector for this?

Hi Guys,

I even wonder how to get rid of this exception. I use some code as property of a report. The code looks like:

Halo guys,
Please give your inputs for the following questions.

1. How good is drill through option in Report builder?

2. Can we use RS report as the child report in drill through connection?

3. Can we use multiple data sources and databases to create a model?

4. What are the limitations of this tool?

5. Can I deploy the model in Sharepoint?

6. Suppose, if I have created a model and deployed in report manager, my 300 customers will create Ad-hoc reports out of it, What about the licensing of 300 report builders?

Report Printing Problem-SSRS

I tried to create reports using Reports server 2005... Its working fine ...
when i print the page its printed full page size ... but in this page has only 4 lines ...
please help me to avoid empty line printing in dot matrix printer...
(just i want to print 4 line and stop my printer header and print another page just after the four lines..)

SSRS - conditionalize Filter operator based on report parameter

I am creating an SSRS report for an MDX query that displays sales by customer including sell/cost/gp%.

I have two report parameters:
TargetGPOverUnder (that has two available values - Over or Under)
TargetGPDollar (which is manually entered).

The end user can select all sales. We then want to be able to narrow their view by selecting sales
with a GP "over" a dollar amount they enter (TargetGPDollar) or "Under" a dollar amount they enter.

We want to toggle this with parameters. However, I am having trouble with the filtering for this as
I cannot conditionalize the Operator or the And/Or column.

Any tips?

Hi everyone I am new to Windows forms application. I have used SSRS in web applications but never used in windows application. The project i am working on now requires me to use windows forms. How do i use the SSRS reports. I installed the ReportViewer redistributable 2008 exe and i got the reportviewer control in the toolbox but in the add new item i dont find report.rdlc file format to add a report. The next problem is that the addition of Dataset in the windows application does not the look the same like the one with web application. Moreover I am trying to create a local report and not report server.

Please help me out its pretty urgent. If its not possible to use SSRS in Windows application please suggest alternatives too.

Hi All,

I am creating a report using SSAS cube as source, which should have four parameters (from year, from month, to year, to month) to retreive data across multiple years(Ex: 2009 Nov to 2010 March), i am using query designer to create the parameters and have used fiscal year for from year parameter and fiscal month to From month parameter, when i try to use the fiscal year again for To year parameter it didn't show fiscal year in the list, can someone help me how to acheive this functionality?

Matrix Table & Chart below the columns

Hi All, i have faced this in RS 2005 and cant use RS2008 as its not available at present for us ...

Basically, When a matrix has 4 columns the chart will be pushed 4 columns across, if there are 2 columns its pushed 2 columns across etc etc .. I was wondering if anyone had a solution?? It looks terrible in PDF format

-Lists seem to not work as the dataset is different (im not sure it would work anyway)

Hi

I have both the Column and Row Header settings of the tablix properites set to 'Keep header visable when scrolling' ticked.

However when I run the report, they dont scroll. This is true for about 80% of the reports.

Am i missing something here or is there perhaps a anything in report services elswhere that conrtols this feature as i cant seem to see connection or common reason for why sometimes it just works and sometimes i just doesnt!

Can I change the default message asking user to enter parameters?

I have a cleint that wants me to replace teh default message of

"Report parameter values must be specified before the report can be displayed. Choose parameter values in the parameters area and click the Apply button."

They would like me to place a customized paragraph for each report that explains the purpose of the report. I will be creating 15-20 reports for them, and each time the report is called, I need the custom message to show.

Is this possible?

labels not showing on axis

I have a basic line chart with year and month fields, on the x axis ( runs horizontally).

another word, I have one field for year and one field for month and they are in the "Drop category field here" box.

when i preview it, it shows two years, but, not all the months are show. for year 2008, it shows apr, sep, for 2008, it shows feb, jul.

how can I do these:
1) show all 12 months for those 2 years on the x-axis.
2) show the starting point of the x-axis at Jan, 2008 and ending on Mar, 2009, and don't plot rest of the data.

Determine Report Never Ran or Been Executed?

and i'm wondering - what is the best way to find the reports that have never been run - not even once?

Define query parameters

When I open BIDS to create a new report..I put in my query in the 'design the query' window and hit next it comes up with an input box that says "define query parameters" and has '@Timeframe' as my parameter. When I put in a value it says incorrect syntax.

DPM reports language

Hi all

I have a DPM sp1 installed on a windows 2003 r2 sp2 server. Locally I am running SQL and RS used by DPM (single machine config).

I realized that when I browse the DPM reports, based on RS, they are displaied using IE language, in my case was italian.
I changed it to english (EN-US) and displayed one more the reports (those are generated on demand and not retained) and it worked fine.
The second time I tried to do the trick the language is always italian regardless the IE language. How could I force those reports to be displayed in English ??

Chart with Trendline, Bar and Line

Hello All,

I need some serious help and appreciate if anyone can shed some light on the topic.
I've two Series: Budget and Expense (the DB field that contains these values is called TransGroup, The data field is TransAmount and X-axis has Months.
The requirement is to show Budget Amount as a bar chart, Expense Amount as a line chart and a Trendline

I added Months to the X-axis, TransAmount to the Data fields, right clicked on the Sum(TransAmount) and added a Calculated Series. So far so good, I see a TrendLine and data for both the series together. Now the next thing to do is to separate Budget and Expense. In order to do that, I added TransGroup in the Series category. The moment I preview the report, it does not run and gives me an error saying: Series1 already exists.

I have tried everything but had no success. Please provide me some direction here.

SSRS consuming 100 % CPU

Our SSRS 2008 is consuming all the CPU (100%) on both production and development boxes even we aren't running a single report. It doesn't stop until the service is restarted. Any one has idea how to resolve this issue?

IIF Statement Help Needed

I have the following IIF statement in an expression for a report (a tablix cell). It is basically interrogating a database field looking for a date. The problem is, when there is no entry in the database for this date in a particular record, the IIF statement provides an error in the results and throws off the whole report. I have logic in play that IIF(IsDate...) then proceed to the true section....otherwise return false. For some reason, when there is no entry for the record, it does not give the false return if I still refer to this field in the true section. It isn't ignoring the true part for some reason, even though it shouldn't even be looking through it after failing the initial IIF condition.

Hear is the code:

If Fields!Logoff.Value is empty, it errors out. Even though it should proceed to the False section of the block. If I remove references to Logoff in the true section (change them to Logon or something), it works fine with the IsDate evaluation and does return false.

Why is it still trying to evaluate the true section when it should be false?

Connection failed on report builder 2.0

Unable connect to the server that is specified in the URL, make sure http://servername/reportserver, make sure server is running, URL is correct and you have the permission.

my server is running and URL is correct then how i check the permission?

Blank Row in Excel

I have a report which have a parameter Type. And my RDL body has two list which contains table in each. I am conditioning if Type is 1, i will hide the second list below. If the Type is 2, i will hide the first list. Which, when exported to excel using the last scenario, it produce a blank row at the first row in excel. I do not want to have page break inside one row. If the page is not enough to display the row as a whole, this row should display in the next page.

I know some one talked about 'Keep together', but not sure how to do it in deatil.

ReportServer table corrupt, need to migrate data

Hi, I've got a ReportServer database with at least one corrupt table, maybe two. (Event and ExecutionLog)

I'm wondering if it's possible to create another ReportServer database and migrate the data over to it with the exception of the corrupt Event and ExecutionLog tables. I'd hate to have to recreate all reports manually.

Recovering from a backup isn't an option: the corruption happened after the last backup so a significant amount of data would be lost.

Different Page sizes

In SQL server reporting services (2005) is it possible to have different page sizes in a report. For instance i want page 1 to be A4 portrait while i want page 2 as A4 landscape. I have tried doing this by having the second page as a subreport but its page settings seems to get overridden by the main report.

On page 2 I am actually trying to display a Graph. Another simple solution to this would be to rotate the graph by 90 degress but this does not seem to be an option in SQL server reporting services (2005)..

ReportViewer on IIS 7 Windows 2008 not rendering, usual fix not working

I moved from Katmai and Windows 2003, to SQL 2008 RTM and Server 2008 with IIS 7. My ReportViewer based .Net application runs but reportviewer control icons do not display and the report does not render. Same reports render in ReportManager and Visual Studio. I tried this common fix which did not work:

Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and select your Web application.
Under IIS area, double-click on Handler Mappings icon.
At the Action pane on your right, click on Add Managed Handler.
At the Add Managed Handler dialog, enter the following:
Request path: Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd
Type: Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler
Name: Reserved-ReportViewerWebControl-axd
Click OK.

SSRS 2008 chart axis formatting

Hi everyone,

For the value axis labels of my polar chart I need to display labels like --, -, 0, +, ++ instead of 0,1,2,3,4 and as far as I see the only way to implement this is using formatting of the displayed value. However I did not find a way to control the 'axis label value' itself I gurss it is taken from the axis interval values..

Anyways, can someone help me how to apply custom formatting and achieve something like:

parameter is missing when uploaded to reportmanager

Hi All,

i created a report which consists of textboxs and each textbox i linked with a report .

in preview the links are working but when i uplaod to report manager all the files and when i click on the textbox in report

its giving an below error

"The 'pBrandID1' parameter is missing a value "

it is not displaying reports which have parameters that are linked to textbox

iam not able to figure it out wats the problem.

please,let me know if anyone knows the solution.

Matrix report passing value through Jump to Report

I am using SQL 2008 reporting services with OLAP cube. My main report has three parameters: Year, Month and Divison.

I have Column group matrix_division with division name based on Division parameter selected
I have Row group matrix_account (revenue, expense, etc.)
TotalAmount is the detail data.

So the report layout is like this:

                      Division1     Division2    Division3...
Revenue         34343          234           456
Expense          555             333           222
...

I have jump to report Action which I will pass Year, Month, Division and Account to show the detail line item. I got all Year, Month parameters as well as Account pass correctly, but I could not get Division value pass to the detail report, pleaes help. Here is the Jump to Report parameters setup:

Year: =Parameters!YEAR.Value(0)
Month=Parameters!Month.Value(0)
Account="[Account].[AcctCode].&["+Fields!AcctCode.Value+"]"
Division=="[Division].[DivisionCode].&[" + Fields!DivisionCode.Value + "]"

Detail report got all the values from Year, Month and Account, but Division is empty, what do I miss?

goto report in SSRS from parent child with parameter values

Hello All,

I am using SSRS goto Report option for headings in my Parent Report. Also I am passing the parameters from parent child.
Every thing is working for me.
Evene when i pass the parameters from parent report to child report. But when i select multiple values in the parameter, then my the redirection fails from parent to child. When only one value is selected then the redirection works from SharePoint as well.

I am not able identify the cause as passing multiple vales in a parameter works (passing multiple values) perfectly in BIDS and when report is opened from Report Library. this fails fails only when i open report from Sharepoint integrated mode.

My parameter is Geography selection which is hieraarchy created in SSAS cube.
And error I get is :

Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'GeographyGeographyHierarchy' is not a valid value. (rsInvalidReportParameter) Get Online Help

Can you please throw some lights on this.?

Hi, hopefully someone can offer some advice...

Scenario-
SSRS2008 running in Sharepoint integrated mode
MOSS2007
Using SQL Reporting Services Report Viewer Web Part
Multiple .rdl files, which link together correctly using Reporting Services

Problem-
We have a starting page (.rdl) which has links referencing all the other .rdl files. All the .rdl files have been uploaded into a single Sharepoint document library.
The idea is, we have configured the Web Part to display the start page, then the user can navigate around reports by clicking on each individual report.
The start page opens fine in the web part.

When we click to view a different report, we get the following:

The item 'http://sharepoint-dev1.<domain>/<document library name>/Name Report' cannot be found. (rsItemNotFound)

In the .rdl xml file, we use the following to configure how we link to a report:

IIF(Fields!Report_Name.Value="Name Report","Name Report"

So if a user clicks on the "Name Report" link, it directs them to the "Name Report" report.

This configuration works correctly if you view the whole solution in SSRS, but not in MOSS...

The problem as I see it, is that I have uploaded each file as "Name Report.rdl", but as you can see in the xml config, the reference is just to "Name Report" without the .rdl extension.
Therefore to test, if I amend the url string to

'http://sharepoint-dev1.<domain>/<document library name>/Name Report.rdl'

it loads the report.

So, why does this work in SSRS but not Sharepoint?

If I amend each report to append the .rdl extension,

ie IIF(Fields!Report_Name.Value="Name Report","Name Report.rdl"

it works in Sharepoint but then breaks SSRS...

I have tried renaming the files before I upload them to take off the .rdl extension, but then Sharepoint doesnt know what kind of file it is.
I have also tried using Sharepoint Designer to change the file name once I have uploaded the file, but again Sharepoint doesnt know what kind of file it is and doesnt load the report.

Does anyone know how to get round this problem, other than have 2 sets of the same report files, one set that works in SSRS, and one set that works in MOSS.???

How to Change the connection strings of Dataset(Datasource) in Report Viewer of Visual studio?

Dear Techies,

I have developed an application in C# Winforms . I have used MS Report Viewer for generating the Reports. I have used SQL server 2005 Express as my Database server. I am working in Computer by Name SYS11 within the network. My SQL server is installed in the computer called SYS1.

When I was designing the reports, I have used the built in Wizard to add the datasource to reports. Now when I designed the reports using the dataset (msdbDataSet) , it has a connection string something similar to "DataSource=SYS1/SQLEXPRESS;InitialCatalog=msdb;Persist security Info=True;UserID=sa" .

Now I have created a setup file of my application and installed in my own computer i.e. SYS11 . Its working fine with all the reports. But, when I go to customer place, and try to install the database in his server of LAN, and my application in all the client computers of his LAN, will it not cause any problem because of the connection string that I have used in reports (connection string of msdbDataSet) ? Because when I install SQL server in his/her PC, the connection string will be different. It may look somethinf like - Datasource=<Machine Name>/SQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=True;Persist Security Info=True;UserID=sa" . How to predict his <machine Name> before I design my reports?

Is there any way to make my reports flexible with respect to the dataset connection strings?

Hope you guys have understood my problem.

Dynamic image in the header displays in SSRS 2005 but not in SSRS 2008

I have a created report with an image in header. The image is a dynamic barcode that should be unique in each page. Barcode gets generated based on the page number. This functionality works good in SSRS 2005 but when the rdl is imported to SSRS 2008 this functionalty does not work. The image on each page is same. I would appriciate if some one can help me out with this.

Gradient color on multiple data field doesn't work

My data are like:
I've a product, a time dimension and two measures
The measures are a history data and future data, so they split up along the time dimension:
An example
September 2009 (History) October 2009 (History) November 2009 (Future) December 2009 (Future)
Product xyz 200 (History) 400 (History) 100 (Future) 500 (Future)

What I want to do:
I want so show these data in an areachart:

The category field contains the time
The series field contains the Products
The data field contains an expression: =iif(Fields!Future.Value=0,iif(Fields!History.Value=0,0,Fields!History.Value),Fields!Future.Value)

If there are only history data, the gardient shoould fade from blue to white, if there are future data, the gardient should fade from orange to white. The expression is: =iif(sum(History.Value)=0,"Orange","CornflowerBlue").

But I dont get the wanted result: The gardient fill doenst work, the complete series is blue for the history data, and orange for the future data => no gardient.

What I've tried by now:
I choosed pattern, and got an properly result => both colors (blue / orange ) and an pattern across the colors

I choosed only history (or future) values => one color with working gardient

I didn't took an expresion for the data field, but two data fields: the blue gardient line (for history data) shows wrong values for the future time=> there are no values, but the line keeps at 400 for the next time.

Please help...
