AnswerView and Read Permissions for SSRS Reports in SharePoint MOSS 2007

I am setting up permissions in SharePoint for users to access reports. The requirement is that users should only be able to view the reports.

When I grant them "View" permission for Visitors type of users, the reports are not even visible to the users. I had to grant them "Edit items" to view the reports. But this also gives them access to contextual menu like Manage Parameters, Edit in ReportBuilder etc. I do not want the users to have these menu items visible.

Is there a way to meet these requirements in SharePoint for Reports?

    Thanks

    Jerry,
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, the link also concludes with the same problem I am facing.

The "Edit Items" permission needs to be granted even to view the reports.

    Thanks

    Hi Sree,
Can you try these permissions for "View Reports" that we use in our testing? Please let me know if it worked.

    - ViewListItems

    - ViewVersions

    - ViewPages

    - Open

    - OpenItems

    - ViewFormPages

    - UseRemoteAPIs

    Thanks,

    Rama,
    Thanks for the response.
I have tried these combinations. The only option that works is to give the Edit Items. This means, the regular viewers will need Edit permission to view the reports. This exposes the options to Manage Parameters, Edit report in Report Builder and Edit WebPArts for PerformancePoint views.

    Thanks

    Sree,
I tried to repro the scenario. I was able to assign an user all the above permissions in my earlier post + "Browse User information" pemission without giving the "edit lists". Can you try that? To repro, I am using the latest version.

Which version of SSRS are you using?  I will try to find out if this is a problem on our side.

    Thanks,

    Rama,
    Thanks for responding back!

I tried the exact same permissions, but I do not even the see the reports listed in the ReportsLibrary. They are visible only when I add the "Edit Items".

To be specific, I am using the built-in Visitors group of users with the default permission of Read. I have customized the Permission level of Read (that comes with Edit Items as default). I have added all the permissions that you have listed out. Below are the exact permission descriptions that I see in the SharePoint under <CompanyReports Site> > Site Settings > Permissions > Permission Levels > Edit Permission Level
(Company Reports Site refers to the site that we have created for storing ssrs reports)

    List Permissions
    View Items
    Open Items
    View Versions
    View Application Pages

    Site Permissions
    Browse Directories
    View Pages
    Browse User Information
    Use Remote Interfaces
    User Client Integration Features
    Open

We are using SQL Server 2008 and MOSS 2007.

    Thanks

    Sree
