How to update standalone Report Builder 3.0 to latest version?

The sole Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Report Builder 3.0 download link is still is version 10.50.1600.1.  A few threads online suggest newer versions were previously included as stand alone downloads with various CU's... but I don't see them included any longer for 2008 R2.  I know there are newer versions out there as ~6 months ago I found a newer version somewhere but cannot find it again, lol.

    Hello,

The latest version is Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 SP1 Report Builder with build no 11.0.3000.

The name of this RB version is different, but you will see: As soon as you start the installer it prompts "Report Builder 3 for SQL Server 2012" and ask you if you want to update your previous version.

    That's the version for SQL 2012; I'm running 2008 R2.

Would you please point me to a MS blog or MSDN documentation stating it's acceptable to use Report Builder 2012 against SSRS 2008 R2.

      Has Code

    That page states:

Microsoft® SQL Server® Report Builder for Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012. You can use the Report Builder standalone version or the ClickOnce version of Report Builder installed with Reporting Services.

Where on a MS site does it state it should/could be used against an older database?

Database versions doesn't matter in any way; you mean SSRS version. I don't know a side, I only know it's still version 3 of Report Builder.

Do you use Report builder 3 (build no 11.0.3000) against SSRS 2008 R2?

    Hi Bsod,

As far as I know, there is no new version of Report Builder. The new version was released along with the Cumulative update package and Service Pack. We can install CU or SP to update the version of Report Builder. For more information about SQL Server released builds information, please see:

    Hope this helps.

     Proposed Answer
BSOD2600: the 2012 version of Report Builder 3 that Olaf mentioned will connect to a SQL Server 2008 R2 Report Server as well.  It's backwards compatible.  So go download that one, it will work!

Agreed.  Tested Report builder 3 (build no 11.0.3000) against SSRS 2008 R2 and examined the .rdl file after. Appeared the same, which is good.

Wish MS would make these things more clear...
