Monday, December 03, 2012 9:17 PMI recently upgrade my sql server 2012 to SP1, I also applied the patch to our sharepoint 2010 server, I have seen some enhancement happening within powerview, such as map, pie chart, but based on MS document, the new powerview should also support KPI, while after I created a KPI in powerpivot, and then tried to bring up this field within powerpivot, it was still showing as calculated field instead of real KPI? anybody had the same experience? is KPI supported by Powerview within Sharepoint?

Hi Jian,
If the Power View report is created based on tabular model, please upgrad the tabular model after installing SQL Server 2012 SP1. To do this, please connect to SQL Server 2012 SP1 Analysis Services Data Source, and set the tabluar model's compatibility to be SQL Server 2012 SP1 from SSDT.
After that, please refer to the following articles to create the KPIs in PowerPivot:
Hope this helps.

Mike, Thank you for your reply
My powerview report is connecting directly to the powerpivot within Excel 2010 file, so what you described is that in order for KPI to show up, the tabular model must be coming from SSAS data source instead of Excel file?

Hi Jian,
Thanks for your posting.
The data source of a Power View report can be the PowerPivot workbooks or a tabular model, and the KPIs should work with either of the data source types. Could you go through the links above and make sure the KPIs were created correctly?

Hi Mike,
I am having the same problem as Jian. I have created a number of KPI's and hierarchies in a PowerPivot workbook (Excel 2010 64 bit). The KPI's were created as per your links using the 'Create KPI' feature in PowerPivot. The PP workbook was published to SharePoint 2010 after the SQL Server 2012 SP1 RTM was installed. Neither the KPI's or Hierarchies are available in Power View (don't even show up in the field list), but they are available in the PivotTable in the workbook.
Are you sure these KPI's and Hierarchies are available in Power View for SharePoint 2010?
Thanks,
Tony

Hi guys,
I am afraid that some features like hierarchies and KPI are only available if your a Power View report in SharePoint 2013 with the SQL Server 2012 SP 1 Reporting Services add-in on an Excel 2013 data model or on a SQL Server 2012 SP 1 Analysis Services tabular model.
So basically as far as I know you won't be able to use hierarchies in PowerView within SharePoint 2010
Best regards,
Joss
