Add attributes to entities in MDS 2012 - Is it entirely manual from web UI?

Is there any other way except for manual addition of attributes in Web UI for entities? Really required to know on an urgent basis.

I was able to add an attribute via the Excel Add-in.  Simply add the column in Excel as normal, optionally add your data, then edit the Attribute Properties.

This action adds the attribute to the entity, even if you don't change any of the attribute properties.
