    I have created a SharePoint site with a PowerPivot gallery that has two worksheets. When I open the worksheets, all data refreshes fail until I login as the admin user. After that, all other users are able to open the worksheets and refresh the data.

    My site is using Windows authentication. Here are the steps I follow and the results:

     

    1. Login to the site as an ordinary domain user.
    2. Open a worksheet from the PowerPivot Gallery.
    3. Worksheet tries to refresh data. Error message: "An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source. The following connections failed to refresh: PowerPivot Data"
    4. Clicking on slicers generates the same error. Log pasted below.
    5. Logout.

     

    1. Login as administrative domain user. The PowerPivot Service application is running under this domain account.
    2. Open a PowerPivot worksheet from the gallery.
    3. Worksheet tries to refresh data. No issues.
    4. Click on slicers. No issues.
    5. Logout.

     

     

    1. Log back into the site as an ordinary domain user.
    2. Open a worksheet from the PowerPivot Gallery.
    3. Worksheet tries to refresh data. No issues this time.
    4. Clicking on slicers, no issues.
    5. Logout.

    Couldn't figure out the issue. We deleted the Site Collection entirely and recreated everything from scratch. It seems to be working fine now.
