I have built a demo for my customer. the problem is that the powerpivot gallery looks like an eye sore
here is the screen shot
Why are these icons so large and ugly? I had seen somewhere that these icons were showing like a thumbnail of the xlsx... but in my case I get to see these ugly icons.
What I can do to get the thumbnail?

Hi MSDNStudent,
Actually, not all the file can be show as thumbnails in PowerPivot Gallery, is the file PowerPivot workbook? if so you should be getting thumbnails, sometimes it takes a little while. Besides, make sure you display the correct version of workbook, if you want to run older and newer versions of PowerPivot workbooks side-by-side on the same server, you should install the Analysis Services OLE DB provider that ships in SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Release Candidate 0 (RC 0) PowerPivot for SharePoint server.
Installing the provider will allow workbooks that reference MSOLAP.4 in the data connection string to work as expected on a Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Release Candidate 0 (RC 0) PowerPivot server. Installing the SQL Server 2008 R2 OLE DB provider is an alternative approach to upgrading workbooks that were created in an earlier version of PowerPivot for Excel.
You can download the provider from SQL Server 2008 R2 Feature Pack page. Look for Microsoft® Analysis Services OLE DB Provider for Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2, and then download the x64 Package of the SQLServer2008_ASOLEDB10.msi installation program.
Thanks,
Challen Fu

I don't understand. I am using Office 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2. As per me this is the latest software for both office and SQL. where is the version problem?

Hi MSDN student,
Since you are using Office 2010 and SQL Server 2008 R2, there is no version problem, sometimes it will takes a little while to loading the data, is this issue still existing? Is this file PowerPivot ?

it has been many days since the file was uploaded. this does contain powerpivot content (both powerpivot database as well as powerpivot grid and charts).
since this is a demo, i want it to look good.

Hi MSDN student,
Could you please give a feedback to this question? After deeper research another possible reason is that “GetSnapshot.exe” was probably not getting kicked off at all, please follow below steps:
1. Open Central Administration page, navigate to Site Actions, then click Site Settings
2. Under “Site Collection Administrator” click “Site collection feature”
3. Click the button of Activates for “PowerPivot Feature Integration for Site Collections” feature
Note: You need to modify, or re-upload a PowerPivot workbook to your gallery in order to kick off GetSnapshot.exe.

I activated the feature and then opened the excel sheet and saved it again (took some time as it said uploading to sharepoint)
Now it looks even uglier
If I take my mouse to the red cross it says error while taking snapshot of this document.
