I had to uninstall my PowerPivot installation (SQL 2012) because I had problems getting my SharePoint integrated SSRS instance to be recognized as installed correctly. I have three instances of SQL 2012 running on the same server as SharePoint 2010 SP1, in a single server farm.
Prior to removing PowerPivot my instances were configured as follows:
1) MSSQLSERVER(default): SQL, SSAS (Multi-dimenstional), SSRS (Native), SSIS and shared components not related to SharePoint or PowerPivot.
2) POWERPIVOT: SQL, SSAS-Tabular (After PowerPivot install), SSRS-SharePoint Integrated
3) VERTIPAQ: SSAS-Tablular
Shared: SSMS-Complete, SSRS-SharePoint, MasterData Svs.
In addition to removing PowerPivot (using the PowerPivot Configuration tool), I removed all SSRS components across all instances so that I could follow the installation order described in: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/karang/archive/2012/04/13/step-by-step-guide-of-installing-power-view-with-powerpivot-2012.aspx.
At this point I installed SSRS-SharePoint Integrated with the RS Addin for SharePoint successfully.
Here is my instance configuration currently.
1) MSSQLSERVER: SQL, SSAS-MD, SSIS, No SSRS
2) POWERPIVOT: SQL
3) VERTIPAQ: SSAS-Tabular.
Shared: SSMS-Complete, SSRS-SharePoint, MasterData Svs.
I then attempted to do install PowerPivot for SharePoint from the SQL Server installation program. After selecting the PowerPivot (without the optional relational component) and confirming the feature selection, the followinng error was generated:
Rule "PowerPivot service inststance name" failed. The instance name "PowerPivot" is reserved for PowerPivot for SharePoint. This istnance is already used by this computer. PowerPivot for SharePoint will not be installed.
When looking at the logs for the install, unfortunately, the most granular error information was at the System Component Check level, with a ASSPIInstanceNameNotInUseCheck rule error. Yes, there is a POWERPIVOT instance for SQL, but I was able to install PowerPivot for SharePoint in this configuration a week ago.
Finally, I followed the steps in the article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff487866.aspx#postuninstallmoss. At this point searching I am stuck. I hope it is something obvious, because there is precious little else on the internet for me to try.
Thanks in advance,

There is already an instance called PowerPivot in your server.
2) POWERPIVOT: SQL
What you should do is instead of choosing a new installation, choose to add features to existing installation. Here you should choose PowerPivot instance.

Hello David,
If we choose a PowerPivot for SharePoint setup role, Setup installs a named 'PowerPivot' instance of the database engine to use as the database server in the farm. In your case, I suggest you that refer to following articles to install PowerPivot for SharePoint. Please see:

Hi Irusul,
I do not see "PowerPivot" on adding feature on ( SQL Server Installation). It is part of Setup Role or nothing on Feature slection. Any suggesstion? We both may be looking at two different things. I appreciate your help.
