Sharepoint 2010-Excel Powerpivot data refresh

Question

Will data refresh for an embedded Excel web part work for a user that is not in Active Directory or using Windows Authentication ? We have users that can login to Sharepoint via the aspnet membership database, they can see the initial Excel web part spreadsheet Powerpivot, but when they go to slice the data they get the error  .. connection uses Windows authentication and credentials could not be delegated.

Users who are in Active Directory are working and can slice the Powerpivot data.

Is this possible or not, what issues are involved ?

The only way to make that work would be to change the data source credentials from Windows Authentication to stored credentials...Choose a service account to access the data....
