PowerPivot Option not showing up - and won't remain enabled

PowerPivot is determined not to like me it seems. I am getting an error very similar to the one described in this thread:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlkjpowerpivotforexcel/thread/29cbae5d-3f6c-4f14-97b2-dfd8760d46d8/
Only for me, I ctrl+alt+deleted because the PowerPivot program had hung on a refresh (I'm not impatient, but it was going on half an hour, I had been working on other tasks).
My issue is that I can get all of the way to here:
Check the PowerPivot option, click OK take any number of actions next; save the workbook, close the workbook, try changing other settings, and no matter what when I open Excel back up PowerPivot is still disabled. I am unable to enable to PowerPivot add-in.
I am using the 32-bit version of PowerPivot found here(http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29074) I had been using the latest RC, but upgraded because of these issues. I've installed .Net 4.0 and I've checked to make sure that my versions match. Is there anything else to try?
Thanks,
Mara

2. Click Go and then select: PowerPivot item.
3. Close and reopen Excel.Thanks,
