Error "Embedded PowerPivot Data is Corrupted", can not open PowerPivot workbook

I installed Office 2010 64-bit (version 14.0.6112.5000) and PowerPivot add-in for Excel 64-bit (Version 11.1.3000.0). I am on Win 7 64-bit.
Next, I opened Excel - PowerPivot window, created PowerPivot workbook from a SQL Server database using Windows Authentication. The data was loaded correctly into the workbook, and everything looks good.
I then saved the file, and closed Excel.
When I tried to open the Excel again, I first got error: "Embedded Analysis Services Engine: Could not load embedded PowerPivot data." After clicking "OK", I got another message "The embedded PowerPivot data is corrupt. You have the following options: Do nothing; Attempt to recover the structure of the PowerPivot data; Delete the PowerPivot data and continue using the workbook", and the PowerPivot data would not load.
I checked that I did have full access to the database. And I also ran Excel as Administrator, which did not help.
Any idea what could have caused this?

According to the error message, the PowerPivot data is corrupt. This means you would have to re-create the workbook, or load a previous version, if available.
Did you notice anything while closing the workbook, that might explain this corruption?

I tried several times to re-create the workbook, every time it would give the same error when I tried to open it.
I did not see anything while closing the workbook. I did save the workbook before closing it.

Hi Mason,
To resolve this issue, please apply the cumulative update on a computer that has SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot for Excel 2010 installed. For more information, please see the KB article below:
