Upgrade to SSIS 2008 1st, then to 2012 from there.

How to upgrade is described here: http://www.bidn.com/blogs/DevinKnight/ssis/2718/upgrading-packages-to-ssis-2012

You should be able to upgrade from 2005 to 2012 as stated here. Follow the steps given in this link to upgrade 2005 to 2012.

Guess Arthur Z. suggests upgrading to 2008 first and then 2012 cause thats a natural progression of packages in terms of technology and the possibility of running into issues would be lesser. But nothing should stop you from taking a leap from 2005 to 2012.

I do suggest upgrading to SSIS 2008 1st, and test, thank you for your comment btsbee by the way, I hastily omitted this part, yes, the reason is in SSIS 2012 there are no more ActiveX tasks in addition to what is in that article, and several other small items were improved in SSIS 2008, but if you cannot upgrade to SSIS 2008 then most ordinary SSIS 2005 upgrade just fine to SSIS 2012 straight, please let us know how did the upgrade go.
