Hi all,
I am unable to uninstall the Reporting services component (named instance), the system throws the following error message.
"A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file c:\windows\installer\sqlrun_rs.msi"
when I tried to reach the location, the installer folder doesn't exist at all, please someone guide me on this.

Hi Uri,
I installed 3 sql server instances (default, secondary) with database engine, integration and reporting services features.
I've uninstalled the default instance with all the shared features,
I successfully uninstalled the database engine of secondary (named instance), but the reporting services component is still showing up with above error messages,
I've not connected to any network, all are installed in my local desktop.

Hi Uri,
To be frank, I am DBA and i've got no knowledge in sql server reporting administration.
what is the meaning of below sentence.
To work around this issue, re-create the virtual directories for SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services by using the Reporting Services Configuration tool. After you re-create the virtual directories, you can uninstall or repair the installation of SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services successfully.
When i went to "inetmgr" i've seen some reports under default website such as Reports$instancename..
what i've to do and also it is not the same error that is there in the link from which i've got..
please kindly guide me..
Thanks for you help and understanding......

Hi, after moving the sqlrun_rs.msi file to the destination and again when i tried to uninstall reporting services i got the following error message
"The file 'global.asax.2EB942F9_4F82_4F00_809E_725F43AD3569' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'sql.cab'. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package."
P.S: Why I am not able to view the Installer folder in C:\Windows\......
when i tried to create a new folder, OS says the installer folder is already existed in the location, i manually copied it through the command prompt.
please any one can u help me.................

Hi Kir4n,
You could follow below steps:
1. Uninstall Reporting Services from “Add & Remove Programs” or “Programs & Features” (in Windows Server 2008 or Vista)
2. Manually remove/backup the databases ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB from the SQL Server. If we already had some reports deployed to Reporting Services, we would do a backup of the databases and reconnect after the new installation. If we want to set a clean Reporting Services without reports, we can just remove them using Management Studio.
3. Manually remove the virtual folders Reports and ReportServer from IIS (This is only for RS 2005. As you may know, RS 2008 doesn’t use IIS)
4. Manually remove the folder of the instance of Reporting Services (For example for RS 2008 would be something like C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.MSSQLSERVER). This folder is not removed automatically and, if we don’t remove it manually, the configuration files will contain information about the old configuration and we might conserve old problem if they existed.
Also you could check http://www.gregorystrike.com/2011/04/07/how-to-uninstall-reporting-services-from-sql-server-2008-r2/.
Thanks,
Maggie

Hi Maggie. The steps you proposed will not work for SQL 2005, I tried these instructions and the ones on the link and had no luck.
It turns out that in my specific case I had IIS services disabled (for some unknow reason) and it was interfering with the RS uninstallation. When I enabled all IIS services and tried to uninstall RS all I got was the message "A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file c:\windows\installer\sqlrun_rs.msi". So here are the steps I had to do to uninstall RS 2005 from a Windows 2008 server (not R2):
1 - first tried to uninstall all SQL components, but it failed at Reporting Services
2 - Re-install SQL Database Services
3 - start all IIS related services
4 - copy sqlrun_rs.msi from install media to c:\windows\installer\ (hidden folder)
5 - open Control Panel, Program and Features, select SQL Server 2005 and click CHANGE
6 - follow wizard, selecting only ReportServer and then choosing REMOVE SQL SERVER (the tittle bar will say "Uninstall Reporting Services").
now Reporting Services will not apper in the SQL Configuration Manager services screen anymore.
7 - reboot server. repeat step 6 but now choose to uninstal SQL Database Services
8 - SQL Server will still exist on control panel. select it and click Uninstall. It will warn you that the program is not installed and suggest to remove it from the list.
9 - reboot the server. open an elevated command prompt and execute "sc delete ReportServer" to remove the service registration.
10 - delete all SQL related files and registry keys. remove shortcuts from start menu. at this point either we will wipe RS from the server or re-install Windows from scratch. Boot the machine. If it is "clean" you may use it for some other work. If not, reinstall windows.Sorry but my steps won't work if you want to remove ONLY the Reporting Services. It seems that in some strange set-up this service will simply get corrupted and won't be uninstalled anymore, either trashing your server or staying there forever. I did all the attempts at uninstall/reinstall until finally began deleting everything SQL-related from the server. But now my box seems to be operational and I was able to install a new SQL 2008R2 on it with success.
