SQL2005-2008;no login,login is error forlogin

Question

I was instant a software sql 2005 and 2008,but when i login and password by sql server authentication,system report error:

Login failed for use("sql2005"or"sa")(Microsoft sql server,error: 18456)

Please help me

Which error state do you get? The complete error message would be helpful.

Hello Pham van Hien,

Please, could you tell us the Edition ( Express, Express with advanced services , or others), the version (2005,2008,2008 R2) and the last installed service pack of your SQL Server ?These informations are important as we don't know whether you are using SQL Server 2005 or 2008.

sa is a special login which is a "super administrator" the use of which is strongly not recommanded.

Please, could you tell us what is sql2005 when you have written "sql2005" or "sa" ?How are you trying to connect ? ( thru Sqlcmd,SQL Server Management Studio,an application you have written )

Hello! I installed my SQL 2005 “SQL server managerment studio express ”version Expense free,! After that my install SQL 2008  elements for upgrade SQL 2005, after install finish me to enter the login application program, but because unknown both SQL2005 2008 are and error message when login, my SQL to use application level program paper certificate of microstation software. I am to have to remove SQL install the not from start.please help me.

Hello,

1) You will never be able to connect a SQL Server 2008 thru SSMSEE ( SQL Server Management Studio Express Edition 2005 ).There is a general rule for SQl Server : any tool cannot use a SQL Server with a major version higher than the major version of the tool.

2) SSMSEE has an enormous problem explained by Mike Wachal in the SQL Server Express Forum :it is absolutely incompatible with SQL Server 2008 ( as regards, it is the unique part of SQl Server 2005 which prohibts any installation of SQL Server 2008 ).That's a pity but we have to do with it.For more explanations, you should have a look on the Mike Wachal post written the 08/24/2008 in this thread:

He has explainde how to uninstall SSMSEE in this thread, but, even with his help, i have had many troubles to uninstall SSMSEE.

As it seems now that you have problems with SSMSEE existence, i hope that someone from the SQL Server Express Team will accept to have a look at this thread ( I know that Mike Wachal is no longer working with them, but the remaining ones are also good and helpful than Mike )

I used to software applications SQL 2005 I installed SQL 2008 is to upgrade SQL 2005.Same as SSMSEE not relation to this problem, here I want to say that: After installation is complete SQL program;I began this system:

Connect to server-Server type: Database engine;Server nanme:PVH\SQL2005

SQL server Authentication

Login:error (Login fail for use"vanhien or differrent name")

So I used login incorrect or any name diferent and ưhat do i do?what login been corrected?
