you can install SQL server 2008 evaluation(Enterprise for 180 days trial) only on windows server OS

Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2008 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(SQL.100).aspx says you can install SQL Server 2008 on Windows XP but Windows XP must be at service pack 2 or better.Rick Byham, Microsoft, SQL Server Books Online, Implies no warranty

I would prefer to buy a SQL Server 2008 Developer which can be installed on a XP Pro SP2. I have my own 2008 Dev on a XP Pro SP3 and i had no problem with it. The Developer 2008 has the advantage to have no limit of time ( no 180 days limit ) and the same features than an Entreprise edition except the cluster. I don't know whether it can be bought now after the release of SQL Server 2012 ( around 60€ for France , 60$ in USA )
