-
Friday, February 17, 2012 6:10 PMI am trying to install SQL 2008 R2 on a Windows Server 2008 machine. It has had SQL 2005 and 2008 R2 installed before.
I uninstalled everything to do with SQL using the Add/Remove Programs, CCleaner and Windows Installer Cleaner.
I am running SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe (Signing time of Monday, April 05, 2010 9:29:28 AM) that I downloaded from Microsoft. I Unblocked the file, I am logged in as Administrator and I Run as Administrator.
I get
The following error has occurred:

Another window shows:

Hi Deb,
The error essentially means that there are some orphan entries in registry and also permissions issue.
While you have run as Administrator, you could uninstall all the existing SQL Server 2008 R2 instance again and reinstall a new instance.
Please follow the steps in SQL Express is not installed properly. Steps to be taken before reinstall again. If it is not work, check this blog which could help you.
Thanks,
Maggie
