Support For Remote BLOB Storage in SharePoint 2010

Question

I have read several times that the SQL FileStream provider in SQL Server is only offerred as a sample and is not fit for production environments. I know several companies that have implemented RBS in production environments and I haven't seen any official comment from Microsoft regarding this topic.

I have been using the instructions in the following technet article and there is no indication that the OOTB SQL FileStream provider is not supported for production environments http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee748631.aspx

What exactly is and isn't supported for RBS in SQL Server?

I've received confirmation from the program manger for RBS and he confirms that RBS is fully supported in a production environment and with Sharepoint 2010.
