Visio Stencils
-
Tuesday, October 13, 2009 10:38 AMHi,
This is not exactly a books online question, but I couldn't think of a better place to post this.
Does anyone know of a Visio Stencil pack to help document a SQL Server environment? I've found some resources for Integration Services Package components:
Visio Stencils: http://visiotoolbox.com/downloads/Visio%20SQL%202005%20Stencils/MS%20Visio%20SQL%202005%20Stencils.zip
Presentation: http://visiotoolbox.com/downloads/SSource/How%20to%20Use%20Visio%202007%20Pro%20for%20SQL%20Server%20Architecture.ppt
but I'd like to see standard icons for each of the services e.g.
Reporting Services Server Icon
Integration Services Server Icon
Analysis Services Server Icon
etc.
I could probably hack together some myself, but was wandering if there was an official shared resource for this. If not, then I think MS should publish such resources to help organisations to docuement their environments consistently.

Hi,
Have you tried SQL Assessment here: http://visiotoolbox.com/downloads/addins/Visio_for_SQL_Server_Add-In_68.aspx
Besides, you can submit a feedback at Microsoft Connect: http://connect.microsoft.com
Have a nice day,

Thursday, October 15, 2009 11:48 AMThanks. I'd kind of dismissed this initially because it felt like overkill for what I need. It is however a very useful tool, unfortunately htere's no explicit support for specific services e.g. database, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, to properly document the configuration for each server. I think this would be a really useful additiona to the add-in.
In the mean time, all I really want is a standard visio stencil for SQL Server which includes icons for all the servers/services.
Thanks again.

Hi
So I never found an official resource, but I've started building up my own set.
It's continually a work in progress, but I currently have:
Analysis Services (MultiDimensional)
Analysis Services (Tabular)
Data Quality Services
Master Data Services
These are icons I completely made up myself so *far* from official, but open for anyone to use if you need them. I'll probably add SSIS and SSRS at some point as well. Feel free to leave a comment on my blog if there are ones you want
