Running sql server 2008 R2.  XP installation got corrupted.

I attached the hdd with the corrupted xp to a new pc but when I try to copy the mdf files to new pc I get "Access denied".  How can I copy the mdf files from the old hdd to the new pc? All mdf files were attached in the old sql server 2008 R2 with the corrupted xp and I wasn't able to detach them or back up them.
