SQL Server Management Studio says 'Please reinstall the application.'

Question

Hi,

I keep getting the following Error with the Management Studio:

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
---------------------------
Cannot find one or more components. Please reinstall the application.
---------------------------
OK  
---------------------------

I tryed repairing, uninstalling, reinstalling multiple times, but it doesn't work.

This is on a Windows 8 DP machine

I don't know the exact status for Denali and Windows 8, but since Windows 8 is an early beta, don't expect everything to work.

Hi,

You need to use the registry editor

Find: HKEY CURRENT USER\ Software\Microsoft\SQL Server Management Studio

There will be 2 nodes called 11.0 and 11.0_Config

Remove 11.0_Config and SSMS should launch.
