Code does not get auto generated for consolidated member

Question

Since in RC0, we cannot apply business rule to auto generate code. So we have setup the code in Entity as "Create Code values automatically". But this only auto generate code for leaf memebers and code generation does not work for consolidated member. Any insight to make this work in RC0 for cosolidated memebers?

With SQL Server 2012 Master Data Services we no longer support code defaulting for consolidated members.

If code generation for consolidaiton member does not work automatically, then I think atleast allow to put a business rule for for consolidated member to auto generate code like it used to work in SS-2008R2. Is there any specific reason why auto code generation not allowed for consolidaiton member in SS-2012?

Hi Manishay

I'd like to know more about your scenario where you need to auto-generate codes for consolidated members. Consolidated members are containers for leaf (and other consolidated) members in explicit hierarchies and mostly tend to be created manually. This is different from leaf members which are usually created in bulk. Are you trying to create a large number of consolidated members for some reason?

Hi Arun,    Perfect case for this would be explicit finance account hierarchy, where account key need to be auto generated. Generally all the member in account hierarchy would be defined as consolidated members, since there is always a possibility that we might need to create a children records in future.

Any update on this topic? We have the same issue here. We are implementing  multiple hierarchy scenarios where each owner can be an owner of multiple owners. The ownership might change over time, so will the hierarchy.  There are basically no leaf members, only Consolidated members.
