Friday, January 29, 2010 9:46 PMThe addins should work with the latest beta of 32 bit-excel 2010. They will not work with the 64-bit version

Hi,
I would like to update this note from January. The data mining add in is not working with the 32-bit or 64-bit version of excel 2010 (the final release)

Use the DM adding for Office 2007, it is gonna work perfectly alright with Excel 2010 as well since we dont have the one for 2010 right now. Check out with RTM its gonna work perfectly and if it crashes it is automatically disabled from the registry.

Thanks for the reply. I found in my case that the add-in was disabled. Excel said that they were disabled because it would prevent excel from functioning correctly. I enabled them and so far so good.

Hello jibran,
I've also noticed that data mining-add-in isn't working with excel 2010 rtm (professional plus). Neither 32 nor 64 bit. The add-in can be installed and started once (32 bit), everything working fine. By the second start of excel the add-in doesn't work anymore and must be disabled. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't fix the problem. Tried it on different machines.
I have no special software installed on my machine. It's a pure microsoft machine for development and testing with all the newest applications.
So my conclusion is that data mining-add-in for exel 2007 ist not working with excel 2010. Waiting for an update since months...

If you are interested in DM Addin style functionality in an Excel 2010 environment, sign up for our free beta at http://predixionsoftware.com. The beta is scheduled to start 8/16/2010.

Hello Jan - It does work with Excel 2010 RTm i have used it since long, specially 32 bit. however number of times it crashes during load when you open up excel and at that point it is automatically disabled from the registry and the excel stops loading it in future, at that point the only solution is to enable is from the registry everytime you require it!

Hello jibran,
I've allready come to your pointed solution. But you have to agree, that this is not the way a program should work...
Jamies post seems like marketing for me and should be deleted.

Jibran:
Sorry that you are having compatibility problems with the add-ins.
Since so many people had the same complaint, the SQL Server UE team published some installation and troubleshooting tips. See the beginning of the article for installation and compatibility requirements, and the very end for troubleshooting.
After you've enabled the add-in and mscoree, the add-ins should work every time you open Excel, without fruther fuss. However, you are limited to the 32-bit version.

Thursday, December 30, 2010 4:57 PMWith all due respect, there does not appear to be a solution here, simply a work around so that you can re-enable DM add ins every time or every so often when the add ins do not load. Quirky would be a kind way to describe the current state of affairs. I can re-enable, complete the task at hand and have no confidence that the DM add ins will be enabled the next time I start Excel. These add ins are really excellent tools and having to "Mickey Mouse" them into working amazes me.

Iam having the same issue.
I am running excel 2007 on VPC for demos. but it is pain.
I am not sure why MS does not provide 64 bit support for this.

Sunday, February 06, 2011 12:10 PMAnother work around is to enable it via registry, and then run Excel 2010 as Administrator, and do not agree to disable the add-in.
Makes it a little bit easier than cleaning the registry every time i open EXCEL.

Jan,
I know it's been a while since you posted this, but did you ever find a solution to get the excel data-mining add-in to work with Windows 7 Professional Plus? I am running into the same problem -- worked once on initial install, but no more. Thanks Robert

Ordinarily I'd agree with you. Except that Jamie wrote the 1st version of the Excel Data Mining Add-in for 2003 as a demo when he was the head of the MS SQL Data Mining Dev group. The 2007 Version was also done by his team. Given that he left Microsoft a while ago with a few of his team to take key role(s) in Predixion. Their goal to greatly expand the capabilities of this tool. It would seem reasonable to think that the Excel 2010 capable verion is most likely to be obtained from them. For that reason I would suggest the link/advert remains.
