Implementing SQL 2008 database mirroing

Hello Team,
I am new to SQL product. We have brought sql server 2008 standard edition. Planning to deploy high availability. Found that there are two way like database mirroing and clustering.
Could you please let us know which technology will be supported in sql server 2008 standard edition and what 2008 R2 OS edtion we need to perform the same.
Also please provide some detail information to explain step by step on installing it. We are using SQL 2008 as the backend for SCOM 2007 , SCVM 2007 and Lync 2010.

Windows Server 2008 R2 comes in only x64 version.

I want to know what edition of OS either standard edition windows server 2008 r2 or Enterprise edition of windows server 2008 r2 support SQL database mirroring in sql standard edition...
Sudeepta i want detail about edtion not the version...i know there is only 64bit os in Win2k8.. :)

Lync Server does not support database mirroring:
