    Hello,

we have a SQL-Server 2008 running on Windows Server 2008 both english versions.
All was running fine, till today.
This morning our support installed german language packages (Windows) on our machine.
From now on SQL-Server agent won't start any more.
The only message we found in our logfiles was that startnig of agents has failed.
Any idea how we can do to solve our problem?

    Regards

    Hans Furmann

    Hi,

There is a known issue that SQL Server Agent service is unable to restart after you repair a SQL Server 2008 installation. Because the sysadmin server role login of the SQL Server Agent service account or the SQL Server Agent service security principal (SID) is removed or missing from the SQL Server 2008 installation. Did you repair your SQL Server 2008 installation or perform any upgrade? Please refer to the “Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista” section in the following KB article. However, I’m not sure the scenario is a workaround for your issue. Just try the steps motioned in the following link. If it sill fails, please provide us the errors logged in Event Log.

If there are any more questions, please let me know.
    Thanks.

    Hans -

I am trying to repro this in house and am not having any luck - can you give me more details about your configuration?

Is it Windows 2008 RTM? SQL Server 2008 RTM? which SKU of Windows and SQL? Where are you installing the langpack from? and as the gentlemen already requested the errors in the Event Log and SQL Agent Log File would be very helpful.

    Thanks,

    Amy Lewis
