    Hi,

I am using MS OLAP 2000 on Windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise mechine..
Previously(1 year back) this MS OLAP 2000 was on Windows 2005 server.
Now the Problem is "I am not able Add new User Database Roles window for cube."

    ...
Analysis Manager ---> Analysis Server---> ITG mechine---> Mange Roles---->Database Role Manager window--->then "Create or Edit a Database Role" window will get open..
In that I am not able to Add new role member nor I am not able to edit in existing role..
I can able to remove existing role member& role and able to duplicate existing role, but
If I click Add button in "Create/Edit a Database Role" window its not opening "Add Users and Groups" window.

And one more thing is… I checked for the same database (by Archiving& Restoring) in analysis manger(same version OLAP 2000) which is on Windows xp machine(32-bit machine), and then it is working fine.
I am not getting whether this is problem with any settings or captability issue or any other...
Note:- I am the administrator, having full permissions on machine.

Please help me to solve this issue..

    Thanks,
    Dharani

    Hello Dharani,

Can you please try connecting to the MSOLAP instance (running on windows server 2008 R2) from Windows XP Machine through Analysis Manager (basically a test where Analysis Manager is running on XP machine but MS OLAP 2000 is urnning on Windows Server 2008 R2 machine), see if you are able to perform the operation?

    Thanks.

    Hello Dharani,

Thanks for the info. The error message you are getting, when connecting from a client machine (XP) to Windows Server (where MSOLAP service is running) is likely due to firewall being turned on, on the windows server. I researched further. Here are my findings towards your original issue:

    1) Make the previous option working (that is, have Analysis Manager run on the XP machine and use this to connect to MS OLAP 2000 on the windows server 2008 machine). For this you may have to turn on the firewall and create an exception on the firewall for the port on which OLAP 2000 is running.

    2) The behavior you are seeing in Windows Server 2008 is likely due to the fact that netui2.dll is no longer in Windows 2008 R2 OS.  You can try to install the Windows Server 2003 Admin Tools pack from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930056 to fix this is issue. Also check UAC (USer Account Control) on the bad machines.

    3) To further troubleshoot the issue, please open a ticket with Microsoft Support team. Please be advised that, The support for OLAP 2000 (even latest OLAP 2000 sp4) mainstream support already expired on 4/8/2008.
For general info, please refer to blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlreleaseservices/archive/2008/02/15/end-of-mainstream-support-for-sql-server-2005-sp1-and-sql-server-2000-sp4.aspx

So even if there is a problem with this version of the product, support will be best effort. Please plan accordingly.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.
