I have been watching Silverlight's progression since its alpha stages and from my understanding it still cannot record and upload audio from a client machine.
How do people currently accomplish this task?
I have heard numerous people on this forum talk about using Flash to accomplish this, is this the norm?

Silverlight without any external tools like expression media encoder, can't capture audio coming from audio input. Flash can, therefore developers who require this feature tend to select Flash as it can capture audio from client machine's microphone

Just like you said, silverlight can not record audio for it does not have any external tools. This utility can record stream music from the internet, so i guess capture audio coming from audio input, flash etc can be exactly the same. It does not need any soft, just find some recording program.
