Why was the Visual Studio 2008 designer removed from the 3 RTW???  Come on, it worked "ok" in 3 beta....

Seems like a lot of people have problem with this.  In my case it has nothing to do with SL3 RTW.  It happened a month ago, when I uninstalled VS2008, installed VS2010, uninstalled VS2010, installed VS2008.  In the process WYSIWYG was gone.  I think it has something to do with incorrect install/uninstall of the SL3 tools.  In my case, I just use VWD 2008 Express which still works...

Are we talking about the same designer?

I have the exact same problem as you. Also notice how the Document Outline icon is overlapping the XAML tab at the bottom. As far as I can tell, this is a bug? Kind makes you think maybe Microsoft should have released an RC before going to RTW doesn't it?

Another issue that I'm having is with the documentation. The documentation for System.Windows.Controls.DataGrid is missing. There may be more missing, but, I know that's missing for sure. When I first loaded the docs it did an update which took a few minutes.

I just found the following text in the release notes. I downloaded the Tools before that page was updated. Got a little too gung ho there. Looks like this is by design. Pretty annoying.

Design Preview Disabled in Silverlight 3 Tools

Due to performance and rendering issues, the preview window has been disabled in the Silverlight 3 Tools for Visual Studio 2008. The functionality of the XAML editor remains intact, including IntelliSense, error messages, and the ability to drag controls from the Toolbox into the editor. WYSIWYG XAML design can be done by using Expression Blend or Visual Studio 2010.

You can enable it by following this link

    http://weblogs.asp.net/hpreishuber/archive/2009/07/18/silverlight-3-visual-studio-2008-designer-preview.aspx

    But

1.You cannot swap the windows, designer at the top

2.The previewer closes once you close the file

    Thanks
