Relevance of SharePoint blog title search

All,

When searching for a word in a blog post title on a SharePoint blog site, the actual post is returned after the individual list views of the posts list. For example, the blog post may be the 9th item returned, but higher up on the search results, I see entries for the following -

Posts
All Posts
Apprve/reject Items
By Author
Archive

If I search for the complete title of the blog post, it is returned first. However, most of our users may enter a word or two and the entry should at least be higher than the individual list views as shown above.

Any ideas?

Different search results for different users

Hi Everyone,

We have a strange problem. On a simple SharePoint list with client data, me and my colleagues most of the time get the same results when we search for the same keyword (99% of the time). But sometimes (1%) i do get a result and my co-worker doesn't. Does anyone have an idea about how this is possible?
I've checked the permissions, but the funny thing is, all items are created by my co-worker and i can search/find them and he doesn't.

change url of search result page

We have a MOSS 2007 internet site. Someone created mistakenly an intranet site collection in this web application and did some work - I will call it location 1 in the following text.

Now I created a new web application just for intranet. And backup the orginal intranet site collection and restored to the new web application as a top site collection, I will call this location 2.

It works fine except the search box. Since in location 1, the searchresult page is : http://www.mycompany.com/sites/intranet/searchresult.aspx.

after I restore it to the new site, it's still pointing to something similar like the old address: http://intranet.mycompany.com/sites/intranet/searchresult.aspx.
But I got a page cannot found message in location 2. But if I manully enter url http://intranet.mycompany.com/sites/intranet/searchresult.aspx. it will show the result.

Where in the code I can change the URL of search result page? to http://intranet.mycompany.com/sites/intranet/searchresult.aspx.

I know we have a customized web master page, and at the top corner of it, there is a search box, but I cannot find where to change the url address of search result page?

Crawling a Web Site

I’m trying to crawl a non SharePoint site on our Intranet. SharePoint only crawls 103 items and I know that there are thousands. I setup the content source with Web Sites as the content source type and entered the URL in the Start Addresses box. I left the crawl settings at the default “only crawl within the server of each start address.” Any is there something I’m missing here?

Working on a new farm install: 4 Servers (2 WFE, 1 Index/App, 1 DB).

On the Index/App server, everything works fine.
On the 2 WFEs, whenever I go to Central Admin -> Operations -> Services on Server and click on 'Office SharePoint Server Search', it errors out. It looks like it's trying to access the Search Admin web service here: http://server:56737/SearchAdmin.asmx and it's failing because the AppPool for that web service is not spinning up.

The event log contains the generic error: Failed to execute request because the App-Domain could not be created. Error: 0x80004005 Unspecified Error.

As a test, I changed the AppPool account on the OfficeServerApplicationPool to a domain account (instead of NetworkService) and it fixes everything. However, within a few seconds, the AppPool account gets changed back to NetworkService (presumably by SharePoint). OfficeServerApplicationPool is not available to configure within the "Service Account" screen in Central Admin, so this doesn't appear to be a usable workaround.

Any ideas?

Search by Approval Status

Is there a way to search on Approval status? I have a user that wants to get a list of items that have an Approval status of "In Progress". I looked in the Advanced Search, but Approval is not an option in Properties. What is the best/easiest way to generate this list?

Return first 5 lines of a search text

Hi,

We are in the process of building a custom web part for displaying the search results. The customer wants us to show the first 8 lines of a result. I am using the KeywordQuery class in order to perform the search. However the lines returned for a matching item (for example a publishing page) is around 3 I think. Is there any possible way to modify this to return the first 8 lines?

I'm running MOSS 2007 on a W2K3 R2 machine. I've updated to SP2, but I don't think that has anything to do with the problems I'm having. I don't think anything is wrong with the webpart, but that my search is somehow not working 100%. Unfortunately, the error isn't giving me a lot to go on, what do these errors mean and where should I start looking for a solution?

WSS Search shows no results for just ONE site

Hello,

As my topic describes, our sharepoint is not showing any results for one single site.

Another site in the same content database is showing results.

e.g.: Searching in /sites/cg will not show any results, no matter what i search for. Searching in /sites/cwg will show results. both are in the same contentDB and have worked before we migrated the server to a virtual infrastructure.

The search service is configured as before and working for all other sites than the /sites/cg one.

Before we migrated to the virtual infrastructure, the server ran on WSS + forms server with SP1 for both.

Now it´s running on WSS + Forms with SP2 and CU june for both.

Addittional information:

- disable loobback check is already set
- search DB was setup new 2 times already
- the search and content access accounts are able to crawl the sites
- manually started a full crawl several times ( stsadm )

I got no idea what to do now...

I setup a search server express 2008, which successfully crawled 260,000 items , but only shows search results for external pages and not the sharepoint sites.

May this be connected???

Search Requires Authentication

Whenever somebody does a search on my sharepoint site, it requires that they authenticate. I've been poking around, but I do not know where to begin looking. This happens on both my "default" site collection and another site collection that I set up. We need this disabled for obvious reasons. Last, I don't think it has always been this way, but I'm not sure which change would have effected search in this way.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

MOSS7 Can't crawl sts3 - keep alive error

Hi,

I have a single server MOSS7 setup. Until about a week ago it ran fine (the machine automatically applies updates). Now the search has failed and it won't index the site.

In the error log I get:

sts3://server_name
An unrecognized HTTP status was received. Check that the address can be accessed using Internet Explorer. (WebExceptionStatus KeepAliveFailure The underlying connection was closed: A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server.

I can access the site ok through http://server_name.

(I'm getting the same for sps3, but I really need the content indexed, not the people.)

I've checked the obvious stuff, keep alive setting on IIS, user accounts, permissions, etc, to no avail.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Friends,

We are developing a custom search application using SharePoint 2007 search services (Search.asmx). We have created a separate SSP and we have crawled around 2 million documents from network location. We are using a windows authentication and we build the farm on several servers, 1 DB, 2 WFE, 1 App front. We are facing the following issue while using order by in the search

1. 1. While using order by Rank ASC .It is working perfectly for SharePoint administrator, but for other user it is giving a timeout error for some time. [ Order by Rank Desc is working perfectly for both the users]

2. 2. The above error is applicable for order by Author and LastModifiedTime.

Please let me know, Is the any configuration is required while deploying the application inside the server form. Because the error is not constant it is coming some time which is not able to replicate.

Crawling FBA authenticated site

Hello all,

I've created a publishing portal with FBA enabled in it. I've created a SSP to configure search for the site. I extended the my portal "http://test" to create a intranet web application "http://testintranet". My default zone is FBA and the intranet zone is windows authenticated. So in the SSP content source i gave "http://testintranet" as the start address and defined two scopes (and rules) and crawled the entire site. If i search in the intranet zone the results are fetched correctly. But if i search in http://test (FBA site) none of the search results are displayed.

How to configure it properly so that i can search in the FBA site?

how does search work with "*" in search term ?

i have 3 libraries. in these 3 doc libraries i have the same file only with different meta tags and another document name (for example mylitdoc01, mylitodc02, mylitdoc03).

when i now search for "mylit*" i only get one result! Not three documents! Is this correct? Perhaps the file hash is the same and the indexer does not index the document? Or?

Search Services Not Starting

MOSS 2007 Enterprise

1 – Web Front End (W2K3 R2)

1 – Index Server (W2K3 R2) also has Central Administration Site

1 – Query Server (W2K3 R2)

1 – Database Server (W2K3 R2 and SQL 2005 Std SP3)

I am new to MOSS and am setting this up the first time on separate servers. I’ve installed the CA site and installed MOSS on remaining servers.

Next step following the MS documents is to configure the search. CA à Operations à Services On server à Select Query Server à Windows SharePoint Search. For the service account and crawl account I have separate domain users. These are regular users with no additional rights granted to any servers or databases (maybe that is my problem, but I didn’t see that it was required in the documentation I was reading). Left the rest of the settings default for the Database Server, Database, Database Authentication (windows), and indexing schedule.

FullTextSqlQuery RowLimit setting defaulted when adding WHERE criteria

We are experiencing an issue where a FullTextSqlQuery is only returning the default 100 results whenever certain criteria are added in the WHERE clause. We are setting the RowLimit to int.MaxValue, and when a wide-open search is done, we are receiving the max results. It's only an issue when tacking-on CONTAINS clauses. Has anyone else seen this issue? I wasn't able to dig up anything on Google/Bing.

SPSearch Issue

HI there

We are trying to add WSS Services Search and follow the procedure and we got the error saying that SPSeach Error. Check the database and all tables are exist and then we find the solution which we are thinking something to do with domain name user BUT without thinking we've just deleted this database (search) as well as the SQL account for content access. :(

Now ... everytime we are trying provioning again for search we got the generic error straightaway.

We check on the EventViewer and here's the error:

Unknown SQL Exception 2812 occured. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.

Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.proc_MSS_GetConfigurationProperty'.

Is thereanyway to redo this or perhaps creating database manually?

Scope Item Count shows Total: error

I have two issues with the default created scopes 'All Sites' and 'All People'. But I don't know if they are related to each other.

First problem: In the drop down search box on the sites, I have only the option to search in this site, this list, ... The 'all sites' and 'all people' scope is not in the drop down box, though it is added to the 'search dropdown' group on my site collection.

Second problem: if I am looking on my SSP, the item count for both default scopes shows for the column Item Count: 'Total: error'. There are no items in my scopes, it show 'not available'.

If I create a search center with tab pages, the tab pages are not appearing, though they are added to the tab list. I am working with a Dutch search center. If I am installing on the same site collection an English search center with tabs, the tabs 'All People' and 'All Sites' are appearing.

I am working on a MOSS 2007 installation, Dutch language pack, using Forms Based Authentication.

Can somebody give my some tips to try out?

Hi,
I have created one Web Applciation at port 9010. I then got SSL applied to this Web App . Then I got this registered to DNS and now my site is accessible something as https://xyz.com . But search is not working for this.
I have got my Alternate Access mapping done properly so that public URL is https://xyz.com and interanl URL is http://servername:9010
Solutions that I tried:-
1) I extended a Web App from servername:9010. To the host header I gave xyz.com. I did'nt selected SSL option for this extended app. The new app got created as http://xyz.com:9015 . But serch is still not working.
2) I removed the AAM mapping and repeated step 1. Still search is not working.
3) Also i have cross checked about my serch server and it is selected correctly.

Do I need to have SSL applied to the extended web app for getting search working?
What could be the probable solution for this???

When starting WSS crawler, I receive a warning (Event ID 2436):

I've double-checked: I can access the address using IE and Service Account/Content Access Account (they are the same)!
This warning is followed then by an error (Event ID 2424):

I have disabled loopback check, as suggested in many forums.

I have a Sharepoint intranet farm that is setup to seach all site collections within the farm, search within it's own site collection and provide a people search. At the top level home site collection everything works like it should. If I go into another site collection and select the drop down of "This Site: Environment" which is the site collection name, the results come up with No Results. If you do this same thing within the top (Home) site collection it works fine. All other site collections within the web application do the same thing, provide no results within their own site collection. What is causing this? I have other farms/web application that work fine other than this one. I have compared settings between the two farms and they appear to be the same. What am I missing?

Filtering Process Terminated for crawling VSD files

I am having issues crawling .VSD files in a 64 bit MOSS environment. I set up crawling VSD’s with the Microsoft Filter Pack on a 32 bit indexer and everything works perfectly. When I set it up on our 64 bit indexer (different environment) I get the following error on the majority of VSD’s, but not all.

The filtering process has been terminated

This is happening in both my Test 64 bit environment and Pre-production environment, so it seems to be consistent on the 64 bit side.

Any ideas out there?

Full crawl taking 20 hours and keeps going

I had the search for my MOSS 2007 enterprise server working a couple weeks ago. a Full crawl would take probably 20 minutes.

Last week the Search database got corrupted somehow and I had to restore it from a backup.

Now the search is taking 20 hours for a full crawl and keeps going I think it might be hung up or something.

Any idea on whats going on or what I should do to fix it?

I checked the sharepoint logs and windows event logs and the only errors I could find were these.

Trying to set index location to a drive on another server

The server our MOSS 2007 application runs on only has a couple of gigs of free space on it.

Is it possible to change the location the index is stored to a shared folder on another server or a network location or something?

I tried running this command but it gives me an error on any location that isnt the same drive

stsadm -o editssp -title IntranetSharedServices -indexlocation \\server\sharename

I get this error "The path for the index location is not valid."

Search Remove Duplicate Results

Hi,

I have the following requirement from a Client who is using SharePoint 2007 Search. They want the ability to remove duplicate results based on the context of the word being searched, for example if they search for the keyword "Alberta" they want to exclude results containing words like "a subsidiary of Alberta". I am not sure if this is possible even in SharePoint (plus how will SharePoint know what to include and exclude). Before I go ahead and tell the client that this is not possible I need your thoughts on this (including any roundabout of doing it or a third party tool would also be fine).

How to get values of LastModifiedTime and ModifiedBy mapped properties in Sharepoint Search

Hello,
i was asked to add some meta data to search core results, : i have to mention this sentence : Document was last modified by {0} on {1}
{0} : the Modified Date , format = dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss
{1} : the last document editor.
In the standard settings of the Core results webpart, there is a column named Writer that hold the last modification date but without mention of the hours, minutes and seconds of that modification. But what i want is a modification date in right format.
I've a mapped property named ModifiedBy but this mapped property never held values it was awlays empty.I've tried many modifications of that mapped property and the ModifiedBy node in search results is always empty.I've read many posts on that subjet and it seems to be a bug in sharepoint shared services search.

Would toi you please help solve the problem.

Search crawling error

Hi

I have recently configured the pdf search in my server. And after that i am getting errors like this in my search error log.
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070020)

How to solve this

When I try to uncheck the "show Properties" checkbox in the Advances Search webpart, is get error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

Any ideas on how to stop the protperties from showing in the advanced search?

PDF files not getting crawled

Hi All,

I have problrm with PDF search

I have two machines one is 32-bit and the second is 64-bit

Machine one is 32-bit machine with Windows 2003 OS and MS-SQL Server 2005 and

Machine two is 64-bit machine on which 32-bit OS (Windows 2003) is installed, MOSS 2007 (32-bit) is also installed on this machine. MOSS on this machine is using SQL Server that is installed on Machine one

I have installed PDF IFilter 6.0 on both the machines

On Machine Two

After all the PDF files are not getting crawled

In crawl logs it is giving following message for PDF files

Crawled (The filtering process could not process this item. This might be because you do not have the latest file filter for this type of item. Install the corresponding filter and retry your crawl. )

Please any one let me know where is the problem and how to solve

Search service - fresh sharepoint installation

Hello,

I've done a fresh SharePoint installation (with wss and moss sp1) and restored my publishing portal there. Everything is working fine except search. I've started wss search service and MOSS search service after installing SharePoint. I created a new ssp and defined scopes. When i click full crawl for my content resource it is returning to Idle state after couple of seconds. None of the items are indexed. Am i missing something?

search configuration in sub site collection level

Hi,

I have to configure the search in one of my subsite by creating the scope which points to lists of some other portal

i have a site called http://xxx.com/sites/testportal1
there are many sub site collection comes under this main site something like...
1) http://xxx.com/sites/portal1/
2) http://xxx.com/sites/portal2/ etc..

i have to configure the search in portal1 and portal2
this is how i am doing:
1) creating the search 3 search scopes under http://xxx.com (root level) and creating a scope disply group and in that group i have selected these 3 scopes.
2) Add the search box webpart in portal1/default.aspx page . By editing the search box webpart property i have changes the group to my group(which has 3 scopes.)

The issue here is i am not able to see the scopes in search box.

Im i missing anything here?
