    Hi,

I do not understand your requirement either. Could you please elaborate a bit?

Generally, the search feature in SharePoint Server is designed for search the resource across the farm, but not the desktop.

For desktop search, you could investigate Windows Search (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/desktopsearch/default.mspx).

I guess the requirement here is to enable search across the desktop systems using SharePoint Server.

I believe there must be some separate product required for searching desktop systems (like Windows 7). SharePoint can search only the content avaialble on the servers.

Can SharePoint be used to search information on client machines?

i believe this is the requirement.

Search the enterprise from Windows 7 (SharePoint Server 2010): http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff899315.aspx
