AnswerSharePoint Site Crawl Error: The item could not be accessed on the remote server because its address has an invalid syntax

    Hello,

I created an Internet-facing Publishing Site in MOSS 2007 with Anonymous access.  However when I checked the Crawl Logs to see whether it was indexed or not, I saw the following error:

    URL: http://website

Error: The item could not be accessed on the remote server because its address has an invalid syntax

Last Content Source: Local Office SharePoint Server sites

Any idea why it should be happening?

    Thanks.

    Deepak.

In my case the solution was to do the following:

    1.  Add an Alternate Access Mapping with the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) of the web-site

    2.  Add the FQDN in IIS web-site

    3.  Specify the FQDN in the Content Source instead of the host name in Shared Services -> Search Settings.

    4.  Start a full crawl

    Hope this helps.

    I have the same problem:

    Crawl Log

    http://extranet.portal.org

"The item could not be accessed on the remote server because its address has an invalid syntax."

    Any idea???

    Gracias

As you can see by Luis' post, he is using the FQDN (not the hostname) in Search Settings, as am I, however we're still encountering the same issue.

    HELP!
