creating registration page follwed by login page based on approval

Hi All -I need to use registration page followed by login page for my new sharepoint site.Actually my client is govt.so any user can login and submit his details .after submitting his details we need to send mail to admin .once he aproves he is redirected to login from there to sharepoint applications page.please suggest me how to start this from visual studio and which authentication I should use.

Hello!

I work on a project team that designs intranet solutions for government agencies. A few people on my project team decided to use SharePoint to build out own internal site and we’ve been thrilled with how quickly we’ve been able to build useful archiving and knowledge management tools as well as social networking features that have attracted users to using the site. We've built a few custom webparts and used JQuery to create a sort of chat meesenger that runs in the browser and refreshes whenever a new comment is posted. The messenger is in constant use by employees; they love it!

Last week, our site design was seen by some of the upper-management of our company, and he’d like us to turn the site into a set of features that can be installed for other project teams as well as our government customers.

My question is this: does anyone know of a resource or example for the documentation of SharePoint solutions to accompany the solutions themselves. Everything else we build here is on mainframes, so a lot of the documents we produce are inappropriate for this kind of project.

Any advice is appreciated.

Videos in SharePoint asking for credentials using Windows 7 client

Hi,

Have SharePoint 2007 and have a site that has videos. The videos play fine in Windows XP but when I use a system with Windows 7 it asks fro credentials.

Any ideas why it would ask for credentials when I am already logged in?

File upload error in Sharepoint

We are not able to upload any files > 20mb even though the maximum is set to 50mb. We get a File Not Found error in Sharepoint which returns immediately. There are no errors in the SP logs; however, after inspecting Fiddler I can see several 401.2 and 401.1 errors on the _layouts/Upload.aspx page. These are the only errors that I can find around this problem, but what is strange is that these errors also show up in Fiddler for a successful file upload (<20mb) followed by 200 result.
The issue only occurs in our production environment, but we can't find anything that could be the culprit.

I don't think it's timing out because it doesn't even seem to get that far.
I would appreciate any advice before I'm forced to open a support ticket. We are using IIS 6.0, MOSS Std, Win Svr2003 Std. SP2

Master Page Gallery Library Permissions Change Automically - Why?

When you first create a new publishing site in MOSS 2007, the Master Page Gallery library does not inherit permissions from the Parent Website - even though the permissions mirror your site's permissions when it is created.

My question is why does MOSS change the permissions to no one having any rights to the library? I don't know what triggers this - but the end result is a Site Owner can no longer create a new page within the site (they get an access denied error message when trying to create a new page). I have seen this over and over again when working with clients - the solution is to go into the Master Page Gallery library and give them read rights - then they can create pages again.

But does anyone know why the original permissions on the library get blown away?

Hello everyone,

I am using SharePiont Server 2007 Enterprise with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. I have the following requirements about task management and want to know whether SharePoint Server 2007 can implement such feature. And if cannot, what kinds of Microsoft or non-Microsoft product could achieve such goals (and could integrate with SharePoint Server 2007). I prefer Microsoft product because I have requirement to integrate task management feature into SharePoint, and I think using Microsoft product is easier for integration with SharePoint. :-)

Requirements are,

1. For task management, task dependencies can be shown, and a big task can be divided into a couple of small tasks;
2. Task assigment is based on organization hierarchy. i.e. a department manager in organization chart could assign tasks to his employees, but not employee of other department managers.

Custom Permissions adding web parts and modifying web parts

Hi,

I've set up a page with 2 CEWPs on it. I want a group of users to modify these web parts but not add extra web parts to the page. Is there a custom permission that can restrict access to the web part gallery without denying access when modifying web parts already on the page?

PeopleEditor in UpdatePanel, values dissapear when AJAX posts from a Submit Button

Has anyone noticed their PeopleEditor inside updatepanel lose their values when you click a submit button elsewhere in the update panel?

I notice that setting:

EnablePartialRendering="False"

enures that the value stays however, the whole page posts when this is set.

If you think you've run across this in your travels please let me know.

Hi there,

I've strange behaviour of events in SharePoint.

If I create an event with browser-access in a SharePoint calendar it appears in Outlook (2007) as status tentative.

If Icreate an event in a SharePoint calendar through outlook it appears as free.

I didn't find the field where this value is stored or an explanation for this?

Any ideas?

Hi,

Within a web part code I have got to transform a sharepoint website in a pdf document, I have completed this. There is an extention that needs to be done, where the PDF document is to only get the publish pages.

So I have a list of pages using the "siteMapnodeCollection" and getting the child nodes etc, how do I check that the node is published??

When I click on page it gives me below error.

Permissions on list items for Active directory security groups

Hello there.
I have some problems that I didn't find any solution yet.
In my company we have a corporate intranet in WSS and an Active Directory with some security groups.
I gave access normally to the users by adding the AD groups to the default WSS groups. Eg: COMPANY\group1 as Members, COMPANY\group2 as Visitors, COMPANY\directors as Owners.

We're going to need to use some lists with permissions for each group .
If I define on a specific list that the users can read and edit only their items, the user A (of group1) can't either see or edit items of user B (of group1). That's the first problem: How do I do to let users from group1 read or edit group1 items?

Another thing that we need to is use the Task list with Workflows.
We want that users can only see/edit tasks assigned to them or to their groups (the tasks will be assigned to the AD groups by Workflows).
Then it comes 2 problems:
First, if I enable only the view My Tasks, the filter applied on the list is "Assigned to: equals to [Me] ". It doesn't solve if a task is assigned to the group of the user;
Second, the Workflow creates tasks with the field Created By containing the name of the user that created the Workflow, and if I define that users can only see/edit tasks assigned to them or to their groups, only the Owners and the user that created the Workflow can see/edit the tasks.

Any tip or solution?

What are the Changes needed so that user can login using e-mail id for LDAP authenticated site in sharepoint.The LDAP server is Lotus Notes Domino version 4.5.I have updated the UserInfo table of the sites content database the tp_login column with the tp_Email column and also in web.config file.When i try to login with email id im getting Access Denied Error.

Explorer view in Vista and IE 8

Could you please tell whether Explorer view is supported by Vista or not? Because, when ever explorer view is selected for a list or a library, in vista a message window pops up to say, "Your client does not support opening this list in explorer view". Is this a known issue? Is there any remedy for this issue?
I dont think this issue is with the browser, as IE 7 supports explorer view in XP. The problem arises in Vista and Win 7. IE 8 does not supports explorer view even in XP or Vista.

So, is there any change of settings to be done in vista, to make available the explorer view??

Page templates

Hi

I'm new to WSS and hope someone can give me a few pointers.

I've created a single site with document libraries which make up the structure of my site. These document libraries hold the pages (the content) of the site. Am I correct in assuming that this 1 site can only have 1 master page? I can't find any mechanism to associate individual pages with different (custom) masterpages.

Also, I don't understand how Site templates can be used? That is under Site Settings | Galleries | Site Templates. If I uploaded new templates to this section what are they used for?

I've been trying to find some documentation online for the above and it either doesn't exist or I'm looking in the wrong places!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Problems enabling incoming e-mail WSS

Hello together,

at the moment I am having problems with the enabling of incoming mail in SharePont libraries with WSS 3.0 (SP2).

The SMTP server is installed
I already enabled the general incoming mail settings on "Operations" --> "Incoming e-mail settings", the ldap path is correct (copied from adsiedit.msc)

I receive an "Error in the application" when I want to enable "Incoming e-mail settings" in a library.

The application pool identity of the web application and the central administration is the same. The identity has rights on the OU to create objects. For testing, I added the identity to the domain admin group. Addtional the identity is Secondary Site Collection Administrator and Farm Administrator.

In the WSS log I see the following enty:
System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException (0x8007200B): The attribute syntax specified to the directory service is invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007200B) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.CommitChanges() at Microsoft.SharePoint.EmailIntegration.SPEWSADManager.CreateContact(String Alias, String FirstName, String LastName, String ForwardingEmail, ContactFlags Flags)SPEWSADManager::CreateContact

I presume it is a rights problem and the WSS can't create the contact, but I think all rights are ok.

I don't know if it matters, but the sharepoint server is a dedicated server in an hmc 3.5 (hosted messaging collaboration) environment.

Versioning being disabled by itself in one document library

am currently facing an issue on a document library.

My document lib has more than 2000 items and has versioning enabled. Some how the version settings are changing automatically. I mean the versioning is being disabled by itself.

This is happening only on this library all other libraries in the site and site collection are working fine.

Im using WSS 3.0.

Can any one help with this.

Use "Ask a Question" if you have a problem - not "General Discussion"

Using "Ask a Question" does not exclude a discussion that ends with finding the answer to your question.

However "General Discussion" threads do not allow anyone to mark the thread as Answered - which is useful information and which in effect "Closes" the thread.

(It also by the way means that no-one who replies to the thread gets any points for doing so. Which is a little known fact.)

So please try to use "General Discussion" only on those rare occasions you genuinely have a discussion issue rather than a problem you want to find an answer to.

Delete List Folders Keeping Folder Items

I've searched high and low for previous topics on this. Apologies if I'm repeating something!

I have a list with folders with items. I want to remove the folders and keep the items in the list. If I delete the Folder it naturally deletes all associated items. I can't seem to find anywhere in documentation or blogs or this site, how you can move items away from folders! Very frustrating.

This is a problem because if you export the list to Excel/Access to analyse the items (in this cast Tasks!), you get a false count on the folders, which in my case serve no real purpose. I just need a flat list of items/tasks!

Can someone guide this noob please?

Refers to a "hard coded" limit of 50 items available to a list view web parts "Select View" drop down control. You can have more views... but you can't apply them.

I'm far into the design of a WSS solution when I came across this limitation. I have a small number of lists and libraries. Then several web part pages to display portions of the lists, but that is assuming several VIEWS. This is huge limitation in this solution. My only solution is to create multiple lists which is counter-intuitive since the document types are broken down by security and type.

Is this only for WSS, or all sharepoint?

Navigation alternatives for WSS3 / move sites

out of the box the navigation in WSS3 is OK, but when growing it's getting more and more, let's say uncomfortable...

in MOSS 2007 you have this nice dropdown-based navigation, based on the structure of the site...

What I'd like to know: are there any common alternatives to the default navigation?

Would it be possible to create an own sitemap and enable a menu based on it? this shoul dinclude permissions, of course, that the user only sees the entries he can access..

I'm not that happy anymore with the two-way navigation, the horizontal one at the top (to navigate between workspaces/sites) and teh vertical one to move inside a site/workspace and to it's children..

In that context: If I'd like to restructure my navigation/structure, is it possible to move existing workspaces/sites?

In detail: At the moment I have a public workspace (root) and for each department internal workspaces (/department1, /department2), inside these workspaces it is possible to have additional children (/department2/workgroup).

Now it will happen that people from different departments should work together, so I have to create a new workspace in the root /workgroup1), which increases the width of the navigation...

So I'd like to create an own navigation structure for the sites, having at the top level "Public", "Departments Internal" and "Workgroups" and below these layer the several sites...

Is it possible??

For a WSS 2.0 site, the Edit DropDown menu doesn't appear on the Shared Documents page

I'm getting reports from some users that the dropdown menu for each item in the "name" column in the Shared Documents page doesn't appear. This is the menu that lists options "View Properties," "Edit Properties," "Edit in Word," etc. A grey box appears around the item and a button appears, but no dropdown menu appears.

For affected users, the Internet Explorer Status Bar displays "errors on page" and the error is "Object Required" on "Allitems.aspx" on line 12129
We've tried clearing browser caches and history -- no effect.
One user downgraded from IE8 back to IE7 -- no effect.
Not all users are affected. My own machine / IE browser displays the page correctly -- I can't duplicate the error.
One user's machine used to display the menu correctly but now does not. I haven't been able to identify changes that might have caused it.
Affected users have the same problem with other sites on the same server.
One affected user demonstrated that he could connect to a similar SharePoint site on another server and that it properly displayed the dropdown menus on that site.
While the menu in the "name" column doesn't appear for affected users, the menu for user names in the "modified" column does appear.
The site was built from a standard template. I'm unaware of any modifications using an editor like SP Designer.
SharePoint 2.0 on Windows 2003 Server.
Client machines are typically Windows XP with all SPs installed.

Can anyone suggest how I can help these users?
I've wondered if a toolbar or other IE add-on could cause this. We've tried disabling some add-ons, I assume we can trust add-ons from Microsoft.

Syncing up a SharePoint Calendar with a Specific Outlook Calendar

Right now the Actions > Connect to outlook appears to be tied to the user who performs the operation and their personal calendars.. is that correct?

Is there any way to have a sharepoint calendar automatically sync up with a specific and public Outlook calendar visible to all outlook users?

And if so (doubtful as that sounds), will the outlook calendar update the sharepoint calendar? and how will invitees not in sharepoint appear in the SharePoint calendar.

Are any of the above features addressed in Sharepoint/Outlook 2010?

Helpdesk Application Template - email notification

I have used the helpdesk template in WSS 3.0 and I have the outgoing email settings setup, but I can't figure out where to go to setup email notification. What I am trying to do is set it up so that if a ticket is created it will send out an email to IT@domain.com from helpdesk@domain.com and then if a ticket is assigned to a certain person than that person would receive an email. Also when a ticket is created I want the user that created the ticket to received an email to them know that it is created with a link that they can click to get to the status and if that ticket is updated at anytime I want that user to receive emails with the details of the update. I think I can figure out how to do the logicstics of everything if someone can help me to get to the area that works with turning on and editting the email notification. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Licensing - Splitting Sharepoint Server Functionality

I have a customer who has asked if he can split some of the functionality out of Windows SharePoint Server, he wants to run one server for WFE and another for search and indexing but buy only one SharePoint Server license. Is he able to do this? He has advised that he was told by somone at Microsoft that this was fine as long as he could prove he was only using the underlying features of WSS not MOSS.

AD win 2003 sp2 + moss 2007 SP2 enter

I have try all possible configuration: Change the admin account for source import, change the method (custom source, default domain, etc.etc) but it does not work. In the "fantastic" log the only word that seems to be related about
the import profile: it's "connection status: closed."
In the import profile status it remain in "enumeration in course"

Any help?

Visio 2007 erasing SharePoint metadata

Does anyone know what might cause Visio 2007 to overwrite, or rather erase the metadata of a document stored on SharePoint (a WSS 3 machine)? I work in a large department where this is happening for everyone using Visio 2007. A Visio document is on SharePoint, and there is metadata associated with it (some custom fields for categorization). The document opens fine in Visio 2007 for editing. Users can even go into the document properties in Visio and update the metadata. But when the document is saved back to SharePoint, all the metadata is gone.

Visio 2003 does not exhibit this problem (which is what the department is now using), though curiously, neither do Word 2007 or Excel 2007. In the Office 2007 suite, only Visio seems to erase the metadata.

I was just wondering if anyone might know where to look. :-)

My problem is not the typical one that you would think of when you see Event ID 1000 #50070....

My sharepoint is working fine and the database that sharepoint relies on exists and is functioning properly.
The database that is causing this error no longer exists and i need to know how to tell sharepoint to stop trying to connect to this database that it doesnt need anymore.

- It is currently using a DB called STS_servername_448260875
- Event ID 1000 is being caused because it is unable to contact database STS_servername_732946780
- The error event ID 1000 is being thrown up once every hour to the second.

I inherited this issue with my job and i am just trying to keep the event logs clean so i do not know what the previous configuration was nor do i have very much knowledge about sharepoint but from my limited point of view it looks like maybe sharepoint was upgraded at one point and a new DB was created....

Any help is greatly appreciated.
