MOSS 2007 no central admin site & wizard errors

Question

We have a server running MOSS2007 with all websites and content in SQL on same server, we have full systems and SQL and stsadm backups of the db's

The Central Admin site has been removed from IIS and when we run the Microsoft Offer Server -> SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard it errors after confirming we're okay with stopping services, the error is posted at the end of this post

It is my understanding that if we get the wizard to run it will rebuild the missing site and get us back where we started - is this so?

I stat again that this is a reposted question that clearly relates to MOSS 2007 as per subject and details so please read it before moving off to some backwater

The previous post said this was connected with Project Server 2007. Hence being moved to Off-topic as this is not a Project Server support forum.

Are you saying that you have experienced this ALSO on a MOSS 2007 installation where Project Server 2007 has not also been installed.

As far as I can see this is the same post with the Project Server references removed.

Hi Tony

With Central Admin Site had been removed from IIS, I think you need to uninstall this product first and then perform a reinstall.

For your scenario, a new Central Admin Site will be recreated on the server if you run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard.

For the error message, the embedded instance of SQL Server 2005 will not automatically be removed when you uninstall SharePoint. Thus, it was still trying to use its previous configuration information during setup progress and exceptions will be thrown.

To walk through it, Please refer to this article for how to manually remove SQL Server 2005 instance and check the results.
