sharepoint designer can't edit masterpage

I'm not able to edit a masterpage (moss2007) in sharepoint designer.

When I copy the master page I get this message:

The folder that would hold URL '_catalogs/masterpage/default_copy.master' does not exist on the server.

The masterpage is copied but when I edit something and try to save it I get the following error:

The server could not complete your request. Contact your Internet service provider or wev server administrator to make sure that the server has the Frontpage Server Extensions or Sharepoint services installed.

I've reinstalled the frontpage extensions -> same problem
I've rebooted the server -> same problem

All services are running.

Can someone help?

Hello everyone,

I am using SharePiont Server 2007 Enterprise with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. I am using SharePoint designer 2007 to open default.aspx under Pages sub-folder (selecting edit page layout in SharePoint designer 2007) of a site, but welcomesplash.aspx displays other than default.aspx itself, why?

Hello everyone,

I am using SharePiont Server 2007 Enterprise with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. I have the following requirements about task management and want to know whether SharePoint Server 2007 can implement such feature. And if cannot, what kinds of Microsoft or non-Microsoft product could achieve such goals (and could integrate with SharePoint Server 2007). I prefer Microsoft product because I have requirement to integrate task management feature into SharePoint, and I think using Microsoft product is easier for integration with SharePoint. :-)

Requirements are,

1. For task management, task dependencies can be shown, and a big task can be divided into a couple of small tasks;
2. Task assigment is based on organization hierarchy. i.e. a department manager in organization chart could assign tasks to his employees, but not employee of other department managers.

How to change z-index of list data sheet view control in MOSS 2007

Hi,
I have created a custom DHTML top navigation menu on my MOSS 2007 site. Hovering on it will show a drop down list with child items. Now this works well on every page except on a page where i have a list opened in a data sheet view. Whenever i hover over the top navigation menu, the drop down opens up upto the list menu i.e just above the level from where the data sheet starts. In short the top navigation menu is coming in background of data sheet view object.
Have any one faced this kind of issue before? If yes, please provide your valuable solution so that i can resolve this issue.

Hello, after following the steps on the: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953271 I have the following issue: When I try to edit a list item and save it to quick I get the and error with the line:

<SharePoint:ItemHiddenVersion runat="server" ControlMode="Edit"/>

Some posts over there suggest to just delete the line, I tested that and it works. But if two users are editing the same item and SharePoint won't let them know that there is a conflict, and the last user who save will win.

Do you know how I can fix this?

URL type column issue in SharePoint List

I am using SharePiont Server 2007 Enterprise with Windows Server 2008 Enterprise. I have a list on a page, and one column in the list is URL type. Currently, when I click the link, the URL pointed destination page will be opened in current browser windows. How to make the page pointed by the URL open in a new browser window?

I have a sub site and on its default.aspx page I want to display an existing view from a list in the sub site. Is there a way to make that default.aspx page go right to this list view?

We've uploaded a custom master page and set all our sub-sites to use it. I've also hidden all the other master pages. However, "default.master" still shows up in the "Site Master Page Settings" page ( _Layouts/ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx ) as an option for the master page.

How do I hide default.master from this drop down list so everyone is forced to use our custom master page?

I have a data view that's source is a sql server database table from our Help Desk solution. I would like to provide a dropdown list with specific values that the user can select. I haven't been successful in SharePoint Designer adding a column and selecting the dropdownlist so that I can specify the options to chose from (i.e. Approved, Declined, etc.). Does anyone know how to do this in Sharepoint Designer? I am using SharePoint 2007 Standard edition. I do not have access to the Business Data Catalogue. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello.

We are using SharePoint 3.0 and SharePoint Designer 2007.

We have a SharePoint list with a lookup column that allows users to look up billing codes from another SharePoint list. We want to modify the drop down for the lookup column so that we can display the description of the billing code along with the code. The result is that one would see two columns in the drop down (the pipe character just marks the column boundary in this example only):

Code Description
NS-035.1-09 | Data managemnt
NS-055.2-09 | Data upload

I can create drop down controls easily in Microsoft Access that display two or more columns within the drop down list, with the first column being the bound column. But for some reason, I can't seem to figure out how to do the same using SharePoint Designer or in SharePoint 3.0 (not sure why such a feature is not built into SharePoint, given that it's a database).

Is it possible to display multiple columns in a drop down in SharePoint, and if yes, how?

Hi Guys,

I want Cascading DropDownBox in DVWP which has Sql Server as Datasource not list.There is nice link on Marc blog about Cascading DropDownbox but its with list not Sql Server.

So I have tried to Develop using asp:sqldatasource and <SelectParameters></SelectParameters> but no luck

i got message like Error while rendering Datasource like type system.web.ui.webcontrols doesnt not have public property type xat-ControlId

any idea on this

Content Editor Web Part CSS Customization

We are using customized CSS files in the HTML Content Editor.
Besides HTML Content Editor, we are also using Content Editor Web Part.
Howerver the web part is not reading our customized CSS files in the Style library. The RTE2PUEditor page is in the 12 hive and gets styles form core.css. How can I use the customized css in the Content Editor Web Part?

I have Multiple item View DVWP(display.aspx) with Edit,Delete,Inset link Now when i Click Insert Link i am redirecting to Newpage.aspx where user can insert data which also DVWP with New Item Form

Now whenever user click 'Save' and 'Cancel' button i want to redirect to them previous page ex display.aspx page.

But the provided solutions don't really help me.

I have a custom list with 5 different content types. When I select "New -> " and one of the items, it passes a "ConentTypeID" querystring parameter to the NewForm.aspx.... and the ASPX seems to pick this up because it displays all the columns related to that content type in the particular order I've specified from the Content Type Management screen and includes asteriks next to each required field. However the NewForm.aspx neglects to mention which content type is being used. In the PlaceHolderPageTitleInTitleArea content area it displays:

    <SharePoint:ListProperty Property="LinkTitle" runat="server" id="ID_LinkTitle"/>:
    <SharePoint:ListItemProperty id="ID_ItemProperty" MaxLength=40 runat="server"/>

Which ends up displaying, for all content types, "[List Name]: New Form".

I've tried, from Sharepoint Designer, to Insert a new "Custom List Form" but this was sorely lacking in that (a) while it asks for the Content Type to be used on the form, it doesn't seem to restrict which fields appear on the form (b) it didn't include any of the asteriks for required fields (c) it doesn't do the column ordering right... and... the big one: Subsequent changes to the column ordering and/or field validation would bring this new "NewForm" out of sync and.... someone would need to update the ASPX form.

I also, I tried including something like this:    <SharePoint:ListItemProperty id="ListContentType" Property="ContentType" runat="server"/>
.... but that doesn't return anything ( I imagine this is because the item has not yet been created ).

My Question:

Is it possible to insert the name of the Content Type in the PlaceHolderPageTitleInTitleArea content area -- using the ContentTypeID as-passed from the querystring?

[ I'm a Site Collection Administrator with Sharepoint Designer. T he servers are kept behind lock & key off site. I cannot use custom code / do not have any access to the sharepoint server or server administration ]

if The user clicks on article1 then it turns the link to red color and stay that way forever so if the user again comes back, he/she can see what articles are in red color and don't click on those that are red because they have already been read.sh

I have a list of Projects and project info. When the user can add or edit an item on the list - there is a Drop-Down Menu with Allow Fill-in Choice. If the user enters a Fill-In choice, on submit, can I add it to the drop down list? The drop down list was not populated by a database.

I want to customize a couple of pages through SharePoint Designer. Trouble is, I can only open the root site and I do not see any of the site collections that were created. Can someone tell me how I can see the site collections so I can edit one of them in SharePoint Designer?

Unable to connect to form web part as a drop-down list

I am working in MOSS 2007 and SharePoint Designer to use connections to allow users to filter list items that appear on a page. I followed instructions in http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA100241051033.aspx to create a form web part for the user to select a value from that will in turn filter the items in the list view web part that appears on the page.

1. I open the web page (in the browser) and insert a Form Web Part.
2. I modify to be a drop-down (following the instructions linked above).

The problem: The form web part is not available within the "Get Filter Values From" list. I have tried a few times and discovered that I can change it to be text or a check box and it is then available to connect to.

Is there something I am neglecting to do or some other reason that I cannot set the form web part to be a drop-down list?

Recently our group decided to build an application in SPS 3.0

Steps we take:

1. open site in SP Designer
2. access list
3. double click newform.aspx
4. delete main web part and insert Custom List Form
5. edit the form (delete rows, add columns, etc
6. Save the form as newform.aspx
7. Reset the form to site definition
8. open the list in the browser and click new
9. receive an invalid url message

Everything we did complies with the directions in the Step by Step: Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007, Chapter 5 Working with Lists and Libraries, Modifying a Built-In List Form Page.

Things that are broken when we edit the newform.aspx:
New button on allitems.aspx

Hi,

I ran into a small problem, my Tasks list isn't linked to EditForm.aspx anymore and I can't seem to get it back. I don't know how this happened, probably while I was creating a custom edit form.

In my sharepoint designer I right-clicked on the list, then clicked properties and then there is a tab that shows you which pages are linked to that list. I added the EditForm.aspx page into the correct field since it was not there and clicked ok. But when I opened the properties of the list again, all the paths I entered (and other change I made) are all reset again.

Does anybody know how to fix this? Maybe in the site settings? I couldn't find anything...

We have a customized master page for our moss 2007 publishing site. So we don't have a tab called sites on the top link bar.

I guess no matter what portal it use, sharepoint will create a site directory page by default, is that correct?

So where is usually the url of site directory, or I have to create one?

Hi All,

I apologize if this is not the correct discussion category for this question.

I am SharePoint newbie. I am working on the Calendar Control, and created custom content types, such as PTO event, Holiday event, etc., these inherit from the Event type. When a user clicks on the dropdown by "New" they see the kind of event they would like to create on the company calendar. I know have a request to add the event type category (the newly created custom content types) to the form used to create and edit calendar events.

I found a few resources online to remove fields from the form. (http://weblogs.asp.net/jan/archive/2006/11/06/Custom-Edit-Forms-for-SharePoint-2007-Lists.aspx)

I can populate this dropdown list with the custom content types from the site content types. I am trying to figure out how to create a datasource and bind it to the sharepoint dropdown list.

How to Apply Custom ItemStyle.xsl file to CQWP

Hello all.

I have a question about applying custom itemstyle.xsl to CQWP.

I created a custom itemstyle.xsl and named it as customitemstyle.xsl and then I update the custom file to Xsl Style Sheet folder under style library and published it.

After that, I tried to apply the custom file to CQWP by adding Url in ItemXslLink.

(the CQWP is not the default one in MOSS. I exported a default one, renamed it and uploaded to web part gallery and the web part worked correctly with default itemstyle.xsl)

below is the code after i change in CQWP;
<Property name="ItemXslLink" type="string" />/Style Library/XSL Style Sheets/customitelstyle.xsl</Property>

After this change i got an error saying unable to add webpart.

Can any body give me directions or any corrections so I can apply the custom itelstyle to CQWP?

Hi,

I have enabled forms authentication for my site successfully. To test it i created users in the DB thru ASP.NET Config wizard. Now I need to have registration page created in aspx and deploy in my site. So that user will be created thru my moss site itself.

Please let me know the steps for the same.

Masterpage Variation

Hi All,

I intend to develop a sharepoint site that support English(en-US: source variation) and German(de-DE: target variation) language. My site will have a master page MySite.Master. The masterpage will contains a few hyperlinks.

How should I design the Masterpage so as the hyperlinks on the masterpage, will point to user selected language page? i.e.
1. If my user's browser setting language is "en-US", then a certain hyperlink on the masterpage should point to http://XXXX:XXXX/en-US/abc.aspx
2. If my user's browser setting language is "de-DE", then that link should point to http://XXXX:XXXX/de-DE/abc.aspx

SPD looping... "Rendering in progress..."

SPD is looping on me on all files that I have been editing for months. In the lower left side the message is "Rendering in progress...", which freezes the display while is renders, then it renders again and again. I'm not touching the mouse or keyboard...just standing back from the terminal and watching it render, then render, then render. Any ideas?

SharePoint Designer keeps refreshing/rendering page in design and split view

I have a problem with SharePoint Designer where I am in design or split view mode and the PlaceholderLeftNavBar keeps refreshing/rendering. When the refresh happens the LeftNavBar disappears and is replaced by rotating arrows and displays "Rendering in Progress" in the status bar notification area. The refresh takes place about every 30 secs. This makes it difficult to work in design or split view mode because the screen jumps around when working in these views. Sometimes SPD eventually ends up crashing. Anyone know how to turn this off?
