change template after site is up and running

Question

Can we change the document forum template after moss website is created and data is uploaded.

If yes, how will the consistency be maintained to cater to pages in old document template

If no,what all should be visualized in advance to avoid this danger

Good question, I have the same problem I have 13 sites that are based on 1 template and if i want to change something i have to do it by hand and that takes alot of time.

i tried opening the template in sharepoint designer but with no luck:-S
