    Environment: - MOSS 2007 (sp1)
    Client Machines: - XP sp3

Issue:-To open the document library in the explorer view the service called webclient must be running on the client machine
The service webclient is in the stopping stage, we are not able to start it or either stop it, restarts did not help.

    Any advices are appreciated.

    Hi,

I know that this is very very ugly way of doing it, but seeing no option, you might have to kill "Svchost" service from task manager.

Now, In task manager, you see many occurances of SVCHOST.exe and you need to identify and kill the one running Webclinet service. The article below will help to identify the correct instance.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial129.html

just kill the process and we should have webclient in stopped mode.

In task manager, go to view-> select colums, select PID.

At the command prompt type tasklist /svc /fi "imagename eq svchost.exe" and press the enter key.

this will show svchost , service running against it and the PID. Check the PID for the SVCHOST running against webclinet

in the task manager find the SVChost for the PID and kill it.

Thank you, Thank you and Thank you

    You are the Man.

    it worked like a cham

the only issue i have is, when i restart the computer it is going to the stopping stage .

should i write a script and place it on the user computer and ask him to run it whenever he restarts the computer or is there any other way to do the same?

    THANK YOU, My pleasure

Well, thats not the solution, we would need to check and work as on why this service is being in stopping mode.

Please install latest service pack and hotfixes on the machine.

    Hi Kshitiz :

This workaround definitely brings webclient service back into starting mode, but after restarts it sporadically goes into stopping mode.

Are you or anyone in the forum aware of the root cause and what service packs\hotfixes will resolve it?

We are currently having this issue over Win XP professional

    with service pack 3.

    Regards,

    Mukesh Giri
