    Hi group,

Here's the short version of the problem:
I cannot access my Sharepoint 2007 portal/ Central admin.

Here's the long and detailed version how I tried(!) to solve it:

(Please bare with me. I added as much detail as I could....)

Ok, I was ready to migrate my update from dev to test.....to find out that my test site returned the following:

    Step 1:
    http://test.xxxx.xxxx

The website declined to show this webpage
     HTTP 403
       Most likely causes:
•This website requires you to log in.

    ...ok...let's try the secure one:
    Step 2:
    https://test.xxxx.nl
Ah: My ISA 2006 screen....Inserting Admin settings and:
The same error as with the HTTP link!

    Step 3:
Then I opened my Remote desktop to the server itself:
Windows 2003, MOSS 2007 SP2 with all updates available incl Dutch language pack, etc etc
Opened a browser and entered the actual url:
    http://test.xxxx.local
and....again the same error as above.

    Step 4:
    Central Admin...resulting in the error:
    The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Please try the following:
    blablabla

HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.
    Internet Information Services (IIS)

    Step 5:
    Little bit of panic...

    Step 6:
    Checked IIS:
    Web pool => Running
    Web Sites => Running
Security on the websites => Ok
when did the web.config change last => nothing strang
    Ok then

    Step 7:
    The event log:
    2,000+ errors:
Unfortunatly they are mostly in dutch.
The source of the erros varies:
    Windows Sharepoint Services 3
    Office Sharepoint Server
and a lot of warnings regarding
    Windows Sharepoint Services 3 Search.

    The general error was that:
Search could not find the content database
"The following information is part of the event: #50071: Cannot connect to database  WSS_Content op xxx\yyy. Check the database connection and make sure the databaseserver is active" (translated from dutch to english

    Step 8:
    IISRESET => No result
Restarting the (5) MOSS 2007 services => No result
Stopping all services - restart server - start all services => No result
Ran the Sharepoint Wizard (Start - All Programs - Microsoft Office Server - Wizard.... => Some result
The portal and CA are still not available but the errors have stopped.
Every hour I get the same warning:
Kan het startadres <sts3://xxxxxxxxx:8080/contentdbid={bdxxx034-6xxx-4xxxx-b1eb-59f}> niet verkennen.

Context: toepassing Zoekindexbestand op de zoekserver, catalogus Search

    Details:
Het object is niet gevonden.   (0x80041201)

    Translation:
Cannot 'explore' the start adres <>
Context: Application searchindexfile on searchserver, catalogue search
    Details:
    Object not found.

I googled it and got...1 hit:
    http://vspug.com/mcotw/2007/01/20/wssv3-search-small-business-server-amp-dns/

I tried the tip (not expecting it to resolve anything but WTH):
    stsadm.exe -o spsearch -action fullcrawlstart
    Succesfully stopped...but no result.

    Step 9:
    Restore the portal....
After 10 minutes or so STSADM was ready and...nothing. Same errors
All urls that were stored in the addressbar returend errors.

    Step 10a:
    Fiddler for address: http://test.xxxx.nl
    HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden
    Connection: Keep-Alive
    Content-Length: 218
    Date: Wed, 04 Nov 2009 19:36:36 GMT
    Content-Type: text/html
    Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0
    MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices: 12.0.0.6421
    X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

    <html><head><title>Error</title></head><body><head><title>Directory Listing Denied</title></head>
<body><h1>Directory Listing Denied</h1>This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.</body></body></html>

    Fiddler for address: http://test.xxxx.nl/Pages/Home.aspx
    HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
    Connection: Keep-Alive
    Content-Length: 1635
    Date: Wed, 04 Nov 2009 19:39:52 GMT
    Content-Type: text/html
    Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0
    MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices: 12.0.0.6421
    X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

This 404 is strange. I realize now. Should this still have something to do with problems in SQL server?
I asked DBA and only 1 error occured but this one is showing up since september....
SQL Server error 4060 Cannot open database "SharedServices1_DB" requested by the login. The login failed
This error is correct since this db does not exist and isnt the SS DB.

And during this period I googled a lot and found about 4-10 threads on this forum but none of them worked for me, here are a few:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/b6fb4dc4-1584-450c-87a9-472b27a748ba/

    http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1322698

    My question:
what can I do more than what I already tried?
What can be the cause of these problems?
    THNX!

    Hi sander derix,

Please try to run post configuration wizard on the test machine to see at which step it will fail. At the same time, answer the questions below for us to understand the problem better:

    1.     What’s the version of your MOSS?

    2.     How did you migrate your update from dev to test? Which migration method did you use?

    3.     Regarding the error message in event viewer, please tell us the ID of these errors.

Let me know the result, thanks.

    Lu Zou

    Hi,

is the the post configuration wizard is something different than the Sharepoint Wizard (Start - All Programs - Microsoft Office Server - Wizard....? I already ran this one and all 8 steps where succesfull (e.g. i didn't see any errors).

    1: Version of MOSS:
    Enterprise 2007
Including all updates until (i think) september

2: The migration was a new feature I created using SmartTemplates for Visual Studio 2008 from codeplex. But I did not deploy it on test since I could not access the environment.(theoreticly I didn't need to access the portal for the deployment but I tried it anyway only to find out that i could not reach it.

3: unfortunatly I do not have access to the server at this point since I cannot open a vpn from my current location :-(
The only one i have is this one:
    Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search
    Event Category: Gegevensverzamelaar
    Event ID: 2436

When I searched for this I found the following solution (twice):
    http://blogs.msdn.com/joelo/archive/2007/06/14/i-m-indexing-and-i-only-get-errors.aspx
The ID is the same but I appears Sharepoint is still 'alive' and accessible in this scenerio.

    Regards,

    Sander

    HI,

after implementing the DisableLoopbackCheckfix on this url the search warnings stopped apearing
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861

Nice but after restarting the server no access to my sharepoint evironment what so ever.
    I still have 2 errors:
    Source: Office Sharepoint Server
Category: Netwerktaakverdelingsse (sorry for this Dutch word I do not know what the English equiv. is)
    Event ID: 8198
    User: N/a
    Computer: <name of the server>
    Desc:
Found 2 valid IP address for this machine choosing this one:
    xx.xxx.xx.xxx

En de volgende (mogelijk is dit de engelse variant)
    Source: Office Sharepoint Server
    Category: Startservice
    Event ID: 6062
    User: N/a
    Computer: <name of the server>
    Desc:

2 geldige IP-adressen voor deze computer gevonden. Kies dit adres:

    xx.xxx.xx.xxx

I found the following link with a solution that needs to change the loadbalancer configs:

    http://dotnet.org.za/doublej/archive/2008/12/03/sharepoint-2007-getting-the-document-conversion-services-started.aspx
But the event id only mentions the IP address it chooses! Not the one to exclude?!

Thnx again for all help en support!

PS: It appears that the warning regarding Windows Sharepoint Services 3 Search returned after about 30 minutes :-(

    Hi,

Ok, so I deleted the CA IIS Website. I then ran the Sharepoint Products and Technologies wizard and disconnected the farm (the wizard then completes 4 steps).
After that I created a new server farm on port 8081 and named the new database sharepoint_config2 (the wizard then completes 9 steps).
After the wizard is done it opens the CA site (http://xxxxx:8081) and.... tadaaa:

HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.
    Internet Information Services (IIS)

I'm at a loss. What could cause this?
The event viewer shows a new event that the wizard ran succesfull, no errors/warnings whatsoever.

    Anybody any ideas?

    Check the following:

    1. Open up IIS Manager
    2. Right click on one of your SharePoint websites and choose properties
    3. Click on the Home Directory tab
    4. Under the application settings group click on the Configuration button
    5. Verify that in the "Wildcard application maps" you have a reference to the aspnet_isapi.dll (c:\windows\Microsoft .net\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll)

If that is missing, add it and then restart the web application.

    Thnx for the reply!
The DLL is referenced and it exists.

You might want to verify your alternate access mappings.   Also do you have host headers configured?
