What is the best procedure to follow for pointing my dianostic trace log in MOSS 2007 farm to a different drive

Hi,

What is the best practice for moving trace log file to a different drive from the one that it is already pointing to. I am planning to do it via Central Administration and we have a 2007 Moss medium farm with 2 front end web servers with a different index server and a project server. Are there any important steps that needs to be followed to avoid problems that might arise in future.

What is wrong with using the normal definition in Central Admin of where the log files are located (in the Diagnostic Logs section) ?

Hi GeetsK,

As far as i am aware, moving the log files to another drive should be ok.

Mike: In my organization, we are having an issue with our farm. SharePoint logged ~ 23GB of files (4-6 files) each night regardles that
we've setup the log only for "unexpected" and "warning" to the events log. The reason we moved the folder is to avoid a total crash to the OS because no space available for its operation / processes. Maybe that could be one of the reasons. (I know this is a rare case but this is happening.)

I am aware of Central admin option...however occassionally my log files automatically get dumped into C:\ inspite of changing the root folder to some other drive. So i was wondering if there is something that needs to be tweaked in or taken care of once the change to different drive is completed.

I mentioned about Project / Index Server because i thought i will give a better understanding of what kind of a farm it was
