I installed a Windows 7 32 bit VM on my Windows 7 64 bit OS.
I have Integration features enabled
I can browse to my DVD drive ... but when I try to run a setup.exe (to install a program) it locks up
In fact even if I browse to my main computer and try to run a program ... it locks up
?? is there some setting I'm missing (or need to set)?
I have turned UAC OFF

I'm wondering if there might be a NIC driver/TCPOffloading problem that might be causing the disconnects. I've seensimilar problems. It might be worth a try:Use at your own risk and only if you are comfortable with editing theregistry! To turn off TCP Offloading, add a DWORD value inHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameterslabel it DisableTaskOffload , and change the value to 1, then reboot. This basically turns of the NIC's ability to do some of the networkprocessing and so the CPU has to do it, but unless it's a very highusage NIC, it shouldn't make much difference to the user.

Now that I am past accessing the network .... the VM seems unusable
Almost anything I try to do requires 100% of CPU which results in non-resposiveness
example trying to run MS Visual Studio 2010 ... task manager is flashing CPU at 100% ... I have 3 GIG of memory allocated for thiw VM ... I can't believe that it cannot run anything!
Is this another known issue? I'm using Windows Virtual Machine ....
I'm thinking of switching to VM Ware? this just seems pointless ... if it's unusable.

Thursday, February 09, 2012 9:50 PMHow much memory on the host? My guess is that you are starving the hostfor resources, cut the memory allocated down to 1G or 2G, and see how itruns in each configuration. Are you running Windows VPC, or VPC 2007?If that doesn't help, VMWare player might do you. It probably will runWindows 7 a bit better in a VM, but at the expense of programs runningon the host. If that's not a concern, then it should work. VirtualBoxis another virtualization solution that can work pretty fast if itscompatible with your hardware.

I have 16 gig total (host computer); quad core
I allocated 2048MB to the XP Mode (VM) which works ok
I allocated 2560MB to the Windows 7 VM
The task manager on the host shows the CPU at 30% when the VM CPU is at 100%
