Old Mircosoft Essentials Definitions....Can I Delete Them?

Im sick of all these definitions being installed and wasting alot of my disk space, because I don't know if the old definitions are needed or the new definition (update) is made to have all the old defintions with it combined with the update. So should I delete the old definitions or should I keep them?

If you mean the local copies into the following folder, simple answer is Yes

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\
